Christians say that the Old Testament is pretty much garbage after the Coming of Jesus. Then why christians, do you pick and choose what you want out of it to use against other people, or to preach, and then- when someone tries to ask you a question regarding the horrors which are in it- you become all huffy?
What exactly do you think of the Old Testament?
Did God change his mind about what he told you with the coming Of Jesus?
Help me to understand, after all the hate mail I have recieved I would really like to know what your thoughts are on the Old Testament.

Mr.Ed- u want me to show u some christians who think that way? I asked a question, and they said "when Jesus came he fixed every horrible law that was in the OT, and most of it is disregarded once the new test. came. Disregarded? Then is it just a history lesson, or the Word of God- the divine inspiration of God- then read my last question if you care to see your fellow christians answers.

I don't think the Old Testament is garbage but I would say that when you read it think about it . . . .The flood, rainbow as a promise, the foretelling of Jesus, the world populating, there was a lot going on. The Old Testament is like a history book . . . . . Jews were the chosen people of God, Jesus came and died for everyone but so the Gentiles (nonbelievers) would be saved as well. I don't pick and choose what I want out of the Old Testament I just choose to see the New Covenant as more relevant in my life.
No one has sacrifices animals before they pray and lives to be 900 yrs anymore just like no one can get taxation taken away by throwing all the tea overboard in Boston harbor or kill every Native American and take there land . . . . . not anymore.

Could you identify the Christians who consider the Old Testament is pretty much garbage after the Coming of Jesus?
Some laws in the old Testament were to limit the horrors, they didn't show God's approval for the horrors.
I'll get huffy when you ask me something I can't answer! - just kidding.
By the way, I can assure you, you haven't received hate mail from Christians, no matter what they called themselves.
God never changed his mind, but laws in general were a "shadow of things to come" - fulfilled in the person of Jesus. The Old Testament, in a sense, serves to teach us a lot about Jesus befor He came, - teaches us our need of Him.
I would be reluctant to use a law of the Old Testament to defend a moral principle - except those passages that explain the character of God. A law of the old testament as explained in the new - that's another matter. It would serve to defend a moral principle.

The Old Testament is important as a prophecy of the New Testament and beyond, a historical book about Israel and the Patriarchs, and as a source for God's complete moral law.
This truth is made known in the Bible, the Old Testament, which promises the coming Savior, and the New Testament, which tells of the Savior who has come.
There are three kinds of laws in the Old Testament: the moral law, which tells all people their duty toward God and other people; the ceremonial law, which regulated the religious practices in the Old Testament; and the political law, which was the state law of the Israelites. Only the moral law was written into the human heart.

Whatever christians you were talking to, they were definitely wrong. The Old Testament is extremely important. Without it we can't really understand the New Testament. It is what God used as the foundation for the New Testament. Without it, it would be like building a house without a foundation. It needs a base, a blueprint. The OT foreshadows the NT. Many occurances in it explain NT spiritual truths. It has over 300 prophecies about the coming of Christ. It tells how and why we are here. Oh, it is much needed and still very relevant. So if another christian tells you it's not for today, tell them they are wrong, and why they are wrong!

The old testament or "old covenant' was given to Moses to teach the basics of Christianity. In this are the laws of God and the foretelling of Christs arrival or birth. The new testament is the fulfilling of the old testament by Christ and Gods commandments are repeated so we know to continue in this manner. Towards the end we find the future events that will take place before Christ returns and judgment day arrives.

For starters, none of the Bible is garbage. It is both a historical account which reveals God's nature to His people as time progresses, where we came from, what sin is, why God hates sin and idolatry, why we need redemption, provisions for proper clothing and behavior, why He wants a holy people, types and shadows of things to come both in this world and in heaven, and examples of both good men gone bad, bad men who stayed bad, good men who stayed good, and all the reasons why God is the only True God and Creator. Your observation is correct concerning the fact many do not know the difference between what laws applied to Israel's judicial system and ceremonial tabernacle/temple system and which ones were nailed to the Cross and which ones apply to us today. A thorough study of the tabernacle will give one greater understanding of how they saw Christ in everything concerning their forms of worship and helps me understand the new covenant all the more. I'm probably one in a million you will find you believes that the law of the tithe was done away with and is a single law-book that has been stolen out of the old law library yet isn't applied by the ones who teach it. The gospel is free! See there? We might agree on something!!

I love the Old Testament. I don't know what Christians you are talking about. It is true that the New Testament fulfills the prophecy of the Old Testament.
Christians do not use text of the Bible against people. We use it to educate people about truth and salvation. It is out of love that we argue againt sin.
When you let God into your heart it is a glorious thing. Christians have a desire to share the Word.

The Old Testament is the foundation for the New Testament. The New one would not exist without the Old. The word Old isn't a good word anyway for the Former covenant. There is a new covenant but the Old is not old and gone away, it will forever exist and the Laws and Torah are eternal. The Old and the new are incomplete without each other.

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
And in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word WAS God- John 1:1
The entire Bible is God's word and He does not change! The Old Testament is very important- we learn MUCH from it- and it does prophesy of Christ's coming....We are under a New Covenant through Jesus Christ- but that does not mean we do not need the Old Testament. The entire bible is infallable. No one should pick and choose scripture. That is dangerous. You cannot have part of God- You need ALL of Him!
