If it's an expedition, the factory sub will have it's own enclosure back on the side of the cargo area. If you use the factory enclosure you would have to go with the same size woofer, which on a Ford is typically a 6 1/2, or no bigger than an 8". You could replace it with an aftermarket sub, you would get some improvement because the sub would be a little more effecient, but it might not be a good idea because the factory amp would be under powering it possibly, as some of the others have said. You can get a new radio with sub controls, and if you get the correct harness for your vehicle, you can run the sub outs of the radio to the sub preamp inputs in the harness, and this will drive the factory amp a little harder, give you more control over the sub, and improve your overall sound. If you want to leave the factory deck, the best solution is usually to get an aftermarket amp/sub.

Yes it's possible. If you get a bigger sub, chances are it won't fit in the factory location. Also, most factory installed subwoofers aren't in enclosures, and are played free-air. So by replacing the sub, you won't get much more of a powerful or deep sound. You could use the same amplifier, but you might damage it. You need to be sure that the stock amplifier is stable at the ohm load of the new sub. And chances are its not very powerful anyways. If you really can't live with what came factory installed, you should go all out and get a new amplifier as well as a new subwoofer and enclosure.

The only problem is you must match the watts RMS and impedance (ohms) of the OEM sub if you plan on keeping the OEM amp. Finding out this information might very hard to do.

You may want to look into changing out the system and putting in a new amp and sub(s). Just be aware you may run into problems doing so, do in-depth research into the matter BEFORE you do any wiring or installing.

Do you mean "original equiptment manufacture" Subwoofer? Meaning it came with the car when it was made.
