B12 is water soluable, so you can take as much as you want without overdosing on it, but you will have gained only colorful and expensive pee.
The trouble with taking large amounts of vitamin B12 is that when you flush the excess, you also flush other B's with it. Needless to say, you can tell when you are over the amount you can use by your very fancy pee. Also needless to say, if you are going to give your kidneys a workout, drink plenty of water.
You can actually end up deficient in other B's that you do not supplement because of excessive B12 supplementation. Balanced B vitamin tablets are a finer idea. If you are going to supplement with B12 alone, you should also be sure to see your doc for prescription level folic acid supplements, so that you can avoid the worst B waste caused by B12. If you do not supplement folic acid and you supplement B12 alone, you may well end up deficient in folic acid, and that causes a whole bunch of creepy neurological problems.
You do not say why you believe this to be a good idea. There are a few reasons why it may be, and in each case the other B's you take with it also matter. If you believe you do not absorb or use it well, then you ought to stick with either injection, or if you are totally chicken, the kind that is absorbed through the oral mucosa. You need other bodily activities to absorb it efficiently through your gut, and some people do not have what it takes. This problem can be tested for by your doctor if you are concerned about it.

I don't know what the maximum dose is but I know that there is one. I used to work as a R.N. and had heard that you couldn't overdose on water soluble vitamins as the excess would be flushed out of your body.
Later I read in a medical publication of cases where people had suffered permanent nerve damage from taking "mega" doses of Vitamin B, which are water soluble vitamins.
I wouldn't take more than the recommended dose that is listed on the bottle until you can check with a medical doctor who specifically knows about this.
By the way, at least one of the people who answers questions on Yahoo and calls himself a "doctor", is not a M.D. I know because he doesn't know beans about medical stuff.

People that have pernicious anemia receive injections of B12 once every few months that are about 1000 mcg/mL. Some people with really bad fatigue can take more.
