The best thing to do is pull out a piece of gum or a mint and pop it in your mouth. Then pretend your putting it away. Then stop and say "oh I'm sorry did you want some?" He will take it. If he says no, then say, "uh yeah, you do" with the biggest, prettiest smile you ever had.

There is no right or wrong way to say this.
What you're looking for is tact.
How can I tactfully tell a person they've got bad
breath?
You ask the person if they ate something spicey
or with lots of garlic. If and when they ask you why
you ask, you tell them "not to hurt your feelings, but
I smell an odor in your breath that I don't like."
If he cares about you and how you feel for him,
hopefully, that will provoke a self examination on
his part and find out what's causing the foul odor.
It may be he doesn't brush he's teeth regularly
or there may be a medical problem.
Unless you feel the urge to kiss him, by all means,
tactifully, offer him a mint, or some chewing gum before you do it. Just know this is not a permanent solution.
This only masks the problem temporarily.
What you want and need is a permanent solution.
He may go into denial or he may respect your opinion.
Either way, you will have tactfully addressed your
concern, and he will be on notice that this is not
acceptable to you.
Good luck to you.

If you like this person, you will definitely tell him that he has a breath problem. If you smell it, so does everyone else including co-workers and employers, etc.

Find a time when it is quiet and let him know that you have something delicate to talk to him about. Then let him know that you like him very much but he needs to do something about his breath.

whisper it in his ear and give a little laugh...or tell him how you feel about him aside from his breath...my breath smells pretty bad sometimes too...hand him some gum...or...

give him a hug and act like its the first time his breath smelled bad..then hand him some powerful gum...I reccomend strips..because some people like me have really poweful breath and basic gum dosnt work...just act like its the first time...then when he comes the next day...act like its still new...then tell him to carry some mouthwash/gum with him more often

Offer him breath mints, chewing gum, and if after that he still doesn't get the hint, get him some mouth wash, toothbrush and toothpaste and tell him to try it.

You could put a peg on your nose!!! Ask him if he would like some chewing gum or the best way is to gently mention it to him. That is how it would be done in the UK.

Offer him a tic-tac, but have one first so it looks like you're just being generous. If there are other people around, offer them too.
