according to this USA today article , in 2004, the average was 9,312$

I'm way above average. I owe $35,000 in cc debt. I raised my son alone, single w/out child support.

No car payment, I drive a 10 year old pickup. I have 6 credit cards and a score of 775. I have no house and no mortgage.

No cc rate is above 3.99%.

i'm not sure about the average amount. but the average american has at least 12 credit cards. and that doesn't include loans and car payments and mortgages
