I've had cats in the family with Christmas trees for my whole life. Other than the tree falling on the cat climbing it, I've had no ill of the cat attemting to eat the tree. I can't guarentee, but that is my experience Note: Tinsel being eaten by the cat is NOT good.

It's probally not a problem with your cat having some christmas entertainment with the tree- as long as its not puking up tree parts. But it is really bad for the cat to eat tinsel, and to drink the water in the christmas tree stand if you add the stuff that is supposed to make the tree stay green longer. I had a cat once that used to eat the light bulbs off the tree(which is really really bad and was a reason to go take an emergency trip to the vet)so we couldn't allow the cat near the tree. It still amazes me though that the cat ate atleast 3 lightbulbs and was better off than we were for finding out she ate the light bulbs.

some christmas trees have additives that preserve them and these can be poisonous to cats also ornaments and tinsels are dangerous becareful not to put any asprin or life preservers in the water at tha base because cats tend to drink the water, also poinsettas ivy and misstle toe are poisonous to animals and people alike it is really important to keep these holiday plants out of reach from your cat(which could be very hard). just be cautious and good luck.

many trees are bad for cats to chew--try usinfg a squirt gun on him--water-- and save him the embarrassment of having the tree fall on him when he tries to climb it.
any time he comes near the tree squirt him--he will stop

well its not a good habit for your cat because it could knock the tree down and hurt itself so you probably want a squirt bottle with water and if you happen to catch it give a little mist

I believe the sap can be an irritant. Don't let him chew on it. Squirt him with water to dissuade him.
You could spray "bitter apple" spray on the branches he can reach.

Let him chomp on it. It shouldn't make him sick. You might end up with a naked bottom half of your tree though.
