Check with any animal shelters in your area. Depending on what types of positions they might be hiring for, they might be looking for someone who has experience working with animals, someone who is organized and can multi-task (can be hard to keep up with everything in an animal shelter!), or someone who is good working with members of the public. If they don't have current positions, you can see what volunteer opportunities they have available. This will give you a chance to meet the staff, see how the shelter runs, and decide if working there might be right for you. Of course, this will put you in a very good place for when a position does become available!

Yes. My good friend has no college degree but has worked in the front office at the intake desk at a Vet for five years. She simply saw the position in the paper and applied. There are secretarial positions and other admin positions at vets and shelters that you can absolutely do, and I'm sure there are others. I suggest you search on monster.com or careerbuilder.com and look for jobs. Within the position they will tell you qualifications, requirements, education, etc. It never hurts to contact the company, tell them about yourself/provide your resume, and ask what additional skills could help you. Good luck!
