It doesn't take a Christian to believe in Genesis. It's up to you what you want to believe. Just know that there is concrete evidence that God does exsist...no one can make you believe in Him...that's something that you have to find out for yourself. And you can if you are a humble, understanding person.
It takes a humble person to want to learn.
Most people who claim to be Christian don't even understand the bible, let alone have read it through. It doesn't mean you're a Christian just by saying you are and accept Christ as your saviour. The bible says that with faith there must be works. This work is specified at Matthew 28:19,20. Many Christians do not follow this. Does that make them more Christian because they believe in the Flood? No. The one who does the will of God is what makes them a Christian.

The book of Genesis is a collection of stories or myths, told by word of mouth for hundreds of years before any part of it was written down. The purpose of these stories is to tell us how people began to come into an understanding and experience of God, Yahweh as God revealed God's self to them and formed the Jewish people as a people of faith in Yahweh. Christians do not have to read Genesis as a history or science book. Christians do not have to take it literally. Christians read it to understand the roots of their faith and the special relationship God has had with them from the beginning of the human race.

Yes, you can be a Christian and not believe in Genesis... it's a slippery slope though...a Christian is someone who trusts Jesus Christ to bring them in relationship with God...its not like there's a sidenote that says...and you have to believe every word in Genesis is true...But at the same time, God's Word is how we know about Jesus...who He is and what He did and does...and if you look closely, Jesus is even in the Old Testament and specifically Genesis.

The Book of Genesis tells us of the creation of mankind by the mighty hand of God; how that mankind fell into sin, and was tricked by Satan into walking in disobedience unto God. It was there where all the sin began; and was passed down from generation to generation until it finally reached us today. If we desire to be a Christian, we must realize that we are lost in sin; and realize that the sin fell upon us when we were born in our mother's womb. God's Word tells us that we are all born into sin. This was the purpose for Christ coming to the earth and dying on the cross of Calvary. But the sin originated in the Garden of Eden. So it is a little hard to become a Christian and not believe in the Book of Genesis. I do not know what your reasons are for not believing in Genesis, but I believe that I would be asking God to remove any spiritual blinds from my eyes; so that I might see the story as it truly is. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) I pray that you will believe as God would have you believe, and truly come to know Him as the Savior of your soul.

Yes you sure can. There are many Christian denominations that don't believe in the book of Genesis as absolute fact. It was merely an attempt to explain creation.
Now many Orthodox churches have admitted this for the first time.
But you still have a desire to be a Christian, then you recognize there is great wisdom in the book. Good enough.

Why don't you believe in the book of Genesis? Do you think it doesn't exist?

You can but the foundation to your beliefs would be eliminated. Institutions set up in Genesis...
man/woman marraige
clothes
law and obedience to God
family
substitutiary sacrifice
government
atonement
If you look through, these tenets start and are based in Genesis. If you don't believe in Genesis then you don't agree with Jesus when he quoted from Genesis? I find that inconsistant.

Sure, why not! The New Testament over-rides the Old Testament anyway.
