I'm just curious because it seems to me that Catholic and Christian are being used interchangeably and I was brought up that Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, etc were all parts of the big Christian pie... so to speak.

I understand all Catholics and all other denominations are Christians and can say their Christian, however, not all Christians are Catholics and that's what most of questions on here seem to reflect. Most, not all, specifically pinpoint Catholics.

I'm not even Christian anymore, but as an ex-Methodist, it kind of bothers me that Catholic is being used in place of the word Christian.

Many non-believers lump everyone who claims Christ into one big irritating pile.

For the first few hundred years, the "Catholic" Church was the only denomination - wholly established by Christ through the Apostles (or so says Church History). All other Christian denominations have stemmed from the "Catholic" Church.

We really are just a slice. I'm Southern Baptist, but that could change. I'll always be a Christian.

Catholics are christians, so are all the others mentioned. The people who refer to themselves as Christian but are Catholic are correct in doing so just as the Baptists who refer to themselves as Christian are also correct. So in a way anyone who part of the "pie" can use the word Christian interchangeably with their own denomination. I prefer not to mention my denomination because it can cause a lot of prejudice from other denominations. (as sad as that is)
I have noticed many denominations.

Yes, whether Catholic or Protestant, we are all christians if we profess Jesus as saviour. Denominations vary in doctrine and Catholic doctrine is somewhat different than protestant. I am a member of the United Methodist Church. Dona G.

Sure, I'm first and foremost a Christian, but my 'religion' is Baptist, and Southern Baptist at that! lol

But note that if my religion were to in any way conflict with God's Word, I'd drop it in an instant.

I'm a Messianic Jew. Practice Jewish traditions and feasts, still believe in Jesus as Messiah. It was rejected by mainstream Judaism and is now a branch of Christianity.

I am a Protestant, but past that I really can't say I have had allot of problems with every church I have gone to. I respect God's word more than any pastor who tells me I read the Bible to much.

I am associated with Jehovah's Witnesses, and lot's of people don't consider us 'Christians' either. My belief in Jesus Christ, His sacrifice for my sins, and His resurrection by definition MAKE me a Christian!
