I live in a rural area of Virginia. The suburbs of Northern Virginia are extending into my area and ruining everything! When those transplants from the north moved here, housing costs went way up. The average house went from being $60,000 to $200,000. It became impossible for the natives in my town to buy houses. My family ended up losing the farm and selling it to make room for tract housing. Besides housing, practically everything in town has become expensive. Luckily for the Yankees, they have tons of money from their jobs in D.C.; we dont. Also, my town's southern way of life is deteriorating. No one seems to have an accent anymore and no one is ever polite. Stores like American Eagle, Gucci, and Abercrombie and Fitch have moved to my area. The natives here have become twice as poor and the Yankees have become twice as rich. I guess soon ill be pronouncing Jersey as Joisey, too. What can I do to preserve my towns southern heritage and prevent northerns from ruining our lives?

Tell me about it -- I live on the Gulf Coast and when the yankees found out we had air conditioning down here they moved in by the thousands. You can't even see the ocean anymore because of the damn ugly condos that line the shore. Thankfully we have a hurricane every twenty years or so that runs off at least half of them.

Nothing...just get used to it or move away. Since you don't have a farm anymore why not try to get an education so you won't be poor anymore? What's so great about being a southerner anyway?

i've got been advised approximately 10000 instances that i'm no longer a genuine Christian (TM) because of the fact my ideals do no longer fall in with the extremist occasion line. I share a number of your perspectives. I carry citizenship in a mundane u . s . a . (usa). there are various paths to God. I take part in the two Christian and non-Christian rites. i'm no longer terrified of non-Christian impacts. I refuse to apply my faith as an excuse for bigotry and hatred. besides, congratulations for no longer attempting to shove the Divine right into a one-length-suits-all container.

That's called capitalism, butthead! Would you rather some ghetto apes moves in next to you and bring the property value down to crap, as I have seen happen up here in parts of NYC? Be happy you have rich folks moving in, because it increases the value of the surrounding property, including yours. If you are too much of a stupid redneck to realize that, I suggest you move to the poorest ghetto you can find. Stop whining and find a better job, because your jealousy and stupidity is reeking all over your posting.

And what is "southern way of life"? Riding around in some beat up old broken down 1940s' Chevy truck with a shotgun rack welded to the cab?

Call the Gen. Custer.. Pensei que na Virginia nao existissem esse tipo de conflito de area. Aqui no Brasil temos muitas coisas semelhantes, mais isso são problemas politicos, nem tanto sociais.

Start a town brigade against suburbanization, especially against that mother-of-all-evil Wal-mart.
