I am keeping him in the kitchen until he is potty trained with gates. Whenever I approach the gates to go in the kitche, he sits or lays down before me (like a bow.) And he follows me around the kicthen wherever I go. Why? Should I stop this behavior.

if he thinks i am dominant, does this mean we can not establish that "friendship" relationship. :-/

It just sounds like your puppy is giving the same respect that he would his own mother dog or pack leader, he respects you in a good way and wants your leadership. Thats a great way to have a relationship with your new pup! This is just how it would be back in the days when dogs used to be wolves, the family pack had a leader who all the members look to for leadership, guidance and wisdome. And he thinks you are the pack leader, prais you puppy for behaveing this way!! but don't forget to be firm if hes steps out of line, as long as you set the rules and praise him for correct behavior you should have a wonderfull relationship together in your own little pack!

He sees you as the dominant one and acts accordingly, this behavior should be encouraged so that he does not come to believe that he is in charge. This is where most owner bites come from, especially when a dog thinks he has the right to "correct" the human. A member of a pack would never bite a more dominant animal. Remember.....you are the pack leader.

He thinks you are dominant as he should. This is a sign of respect as the alpha in his life. You should assure the dog it is safe with you but never allow the dog to think he is dominant.

You don't want to be equal to the dog. You want to be "Alpha Dog." The puppy needs to realize you can kick his little puppy behind into next week. Accept your due as the dominant one, and scratch his little belly. Life is easy.

He sounds like he's a good little puppy. You are his new leader and he is wanting to bond with you. No reason to try to stop this behavior - in fact I would encourage it.

Your his mommy, he is following you around like he would his dog mommy or littermates. Don't discourage this, he sees you as pack leader. This behavior should lessen as he gets older.

He loves you, wants to please you and craves your attention. That's a good thing. It will make training much easier. Just treat him like he were your child and you are his parent.
