a good friend just told me he liked me, but the feeling is not mutual. how do I reject him nicely and still be friends?

Okay, calm down -- take a deep breath - this is a fairly easy one. First, let him know that you are flattered that he likes you (he did say "like" not love?). That you truly like him as a friend however, that is as far as it goes. You do not have any deeper feeling for him and you want him to know that very clearly.
You need to be upfront, clear, concise and kind but you must stand firm - it is best for everyone that he knows how you feel and knows it right now.
Tell him you need to talk to him. Find a good time in the next 24 to 48 hours to tell him. Make sure the environment is right - not noisy, chaotic, etc. However, also make sure you do not meet with him in any type of setting that could be construed as "romantic".
You are wise to do this - to many people put it off thinking that he'll get the idea sooner or later.

Let him know that he's a good friend and you think it would be best if you guys kept it that way. That you wouldn't want anything to ruin your friendship.
