Would we be better served putting some of that desperatly needed money into somthing else? I mean, 9/11 was caused because we the U.S.A. have been attacking them for the last 100 years. Do you think it's time to start using that money to spread peace instead of hatred? The love we would generate around the world would change the world. When will we learn from the past and apply somthing new to the future?

Yes, I believe we shoudl divert more money into the hippie eradication project (HEP), this would vastly improve America, economically, socially, and militarily.

No the money has been spent on the war. We should have a great military that has the funds it needs. Come on now if we let our military go and divert the money else where what do you think is going to happen? There are and always will be other countries out there just waiting for the chance to attack us.If you think all that is a thing of the past or the cold war is over and always will be you are soo wrong. Let me ask you instead of buying locks for your house why don't you spend that money on something more use full like the homeless. See where I am going with this your house would be broken into and you could be killed, right? Well that is the same with our military as long as we have the best our house is safer.

Healthy perspective? You bet your life it is a healthy perspective! Anytime you get tired of being protected, and having your freedom, you just pack your bags and go on over to another country. May be then you will understand why the rest of us VALUE and SPEND so much on our military.
9/11 has nothing to do with the past 100 years as you put it. Our homes, and lives were threatened....and lives were lost in the 9/11 attack. Were we just suppose to set back and do nothing? Do you really think that the families of the loved ones that were lost, would have wanted the President of the United States to do nothing?
Our military is the backbone of the United States of America. I can only hope and pray that our military keep growing stronger and have everything they need to protect the United States of America as well as themselves.
This (terrorist) is a new step for everyone and I back our military 100%. God Bless Them All!

The military isn't merely some fighting machine. To have a strong nation you NEED a strong army. Military service men and women help around our country, from poverty stricken areas to disaster relief. People are stationed all around the world *right now* helping restore and maintain peace. It's like asking if we should get rid of the police in order to get rid of violence. It just doesn't make sense. Plus it's not even like the soldiers we have stationed in Iraq even get everything they need. Too many soldiers to a humvee, not enough protective gear, etc. Many would argue that given our current situation that even more money needs to go to the army. There are lots of places in our country where money is wasted and could go to better, more deserving places, but taking away from our army isn't a solution. And regarding 9/11 - yes, there were things the US could have done to better protect itself, but it's not the US's fault. The terrorists made their own decisions to act so despicably on 9/11. They could have attacked those prepared for battle, but no, they *chose* to attack innocent civilians.

First of all, 9/11 was caused by bigoted muslims who did not respect freedom nor life, especially that of civilians. Having a good military is how we became a superpower. It is a part of America. Love does not expand as much as u and i would hope. That is why we r fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. That is why North Korea and Iran is causing so much anxiety. Many do not think like u and i. We value life and love. Many value only their religion and will kill others in the name of their god. This saddens me. I am a Christian and yet I do not hate Muslims or Jews. But I am more tolerant than those the USA fights. I guess u have to fight the hate to expand the love.

America spends so much money on defense because our enemies want our stuff and do us harm. We also give more "peacetime" aid to the rest of the world than any groupings of nations. Your solution is a giant welfare plan. You want me to work and give a percentage of my earnings to an undeserving nation so they will like me.

Who have we been attacking for 100 years that justifies their actions? We defended the Muslims in Bosnia. We defended the Muslims in Somalia. We defended the Muslims in North Africa against the Nazis. We defended the Afghans against the Soviets. We defended the Kuwaitis against Saddam. We defended the Muslims in Indonesia against the Japanese during WWII. American Muslims enjoy the highest standard of living in world, and are free to exercise their religion without gov't interference. We gave the most aid and comfort to Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. Please explain why Middle Eastern Muslims hate Americans.

My explanation is they are jealous, immature, envious, and frustrated at their society's inability to match American success. They do not value life. They mistreat their women and children. They do not like universal freedom. They created some great things, but that was a very very long time ago. They realize that without their oil the rest of the world wouldn't give them much of a thought. America passed them by in the 1800's and the Middle Eastern Muslims do not like it. The probem is with them, not us.

Enlighten the rest of us...who has the USA been attacking in the last 100 years? During my time in the military I don't recall attacking anyone.
Back in the 1906's we thought love would change the world...didn't happen.

the most effective way to spread peace is Thought war this may sound strange but if you think about it how do you stop a country for trying to impose it's laws on free people you fight them and tell them to knock it off. the us spends the most money because we make the most money. We did not attack any one they attacked us. Get that thought your head remember THEY behead people on TV they strap bombs to children and THEY hide in protected buildings (like mosques and hospitals) with civilians so we have to kit the target to defend our self.as for learning from the past maybe we should learn form them and do what ever it takes to win the war?

Sure. Now is a great time to spend less on military.

It's just what the errorists want.

But, if you want to try love and peace, go have a meeting with the sunnis and shiites.

So somehow you will make the terrorists understand peace? Not likely as their whole existence is based on the violence they spread. The only way your idea would work is if we surrendered to fanatical Islam, and I doubt too many are up for that.
