When you first get a burn, if you can put it in cold water it will help. The best thing for burns is if you have an aloe vera plant break a leaf and squeeze the juice on the burn or if you have some aloe vera gel that also helps. The gel out of a Vitamin E capsule is also very soothing. There are other over the counter products for burn. If it is of significant size it is best to get it checked by a professional to make sure it doesn't become infected.

Depends on how serious the burn is. If you burn yourself on the stove etc put it under COOL not cold water. Ice is bad because it'll damage the skin. Butter is BAD BAD BAD to put on a burn. If it's just a sunburn or a minor burn then after you cool it down you can put unscented lotion or aloe vera on it... anything that feels soothing. Of course if it's a bad burn you want to seek medical treatment. If it's oozing/pussing etc (ie 2nd degree) I wouldn't put anything on it--just put a sterile dressing (like a loose-fitting bandage) on it and monitor it carefully, but better yet see a doctor and they can give you better advice than any of us!

Try some aloe or I like spray Solerciane. It has a numbing agent in it, But only if the burn is just red with no blisters. Anything more serious should be seen by a doc.

plain yogurt applied to a burn will keep it cool,or you can make up a soothing poultice from honey and yogurt.adding crushed elderberries to the poultice will make it more effective or mash the leaves of the elder with a little butter and use it as a mild creamfor the effected area. cucumber mashed to a pulp and mixed with glycerine makes a particularly wonderful moisturising balm.cool the whole area with a cider vinegar splash and make sure to have plenty of fluids. try makimg a tea made from lemon balm, which will both calm the patient and provide further pain relief

Talk to your Pharmacist, I know there is a great salve for burns and it's used in the Burn Units, but it is very expensive and you also may need a prescription. In any case, a good pharmacist will be able to help.
Good Luck

Ice will help. It will cut down on scaring and possible swelling from the burn as well as the pain of it.

If the burn isn't cut open put hand sanitizer on it. I burned my arm on a 800 degree grill. It really helped and it is cooler if you blow on it, even though it drys up faster.
