first thing in the morning they go out to pee...
then in to eat
then out to run and poop (excercise stimulates the bowels)

from here on depends on the age of the puppy and the kind of food you are feeding...
lower quality food = more trips outside

always go out with the pup and offer instant soft treat reward...

Give the puppy plenty of opportunities to relieve itself. It should have a potty break 1st thing in the morning; after every meal; after every nap; after strenuous play sessions, last thing at night; and during the night if it appears restless. When escorting the puppy outside, always take it out the same door and to the same spot.

I would take a puppy out every 15 minutes or so, until they are trained to go to the door and such.

As they get older, increase the time between potty breaks, and try to set up a time schedule... for example, take them out when you get up, every evening at a certain time and before you go to bed. That way, they'll have a pattern to follow. :)

Take him outside when he wakes up and after he eats or drinks. Once the dog learns to do his business outside, he will let you know when he needs to go. Be prepared for accidents, even the potty trained puppy's and dogs have them occasionally.

Well, every puppy is different so, when your puppy seams at a discomfort take him out, but also, take your puppy out every 2- 2.5 hours. To be safe, I would lay out newspapers for late night discomforts.

Puppy's need to go out fifteen minutes after they have eaten, the time can vary from breed to breed, however. When not eating or drinking, I'd say they'd need to be let out every hour or two.

Well, our dog just goes to the door whenever he needs to go and we let him into the backyard. But if you cant just let your dog out or he doesn't know to go to the door, then you should take him out 2-3 times a day.
