Several years ago I did the same thing, I had 14 inches cut off and I sent it away to "locks of love", the short hair cut was a shock, but after all those years of constantly taking care of the long hair, the short hair was like a major vacation! I would say that you can always grow it back, but you may really love the freedom of the shorter hairstyle. And maybe you don't want to cut if all off in one haircut, maybe take about half , see how you like it, then decide if you want to go shorter. The ease of washing/combing the shorter hair was a real shock to me, plus my hair wasnt' constantly getting stuck in car doors, doorhandles, etc. Superlong hair takes up an amazing amount of your day in just making sure you don't hang yourself! Shorter hair is super-freeing, but make sure you are ready for it, then if you decide to do it, ENJOY IT! :)

i HAD straight long hair that went down to my butt too and the same thing happened to me people would stop and say "wow u have such beautiful and long hair how long have u been growing it?" and stuff like that but last summer on my way to 8th grade (the grade i m in right now) i cut it a little past my shoulderz and some people said it looked nice this way and other people said it looked better b-4 when it waz long. so maybe u should cut it it would look nice and different (in a good way) cuz ppl mostly told me it looks better this way so yeah i think u should cut it but y listen to me i m just a stranger answering ur question, but it's just my opinion u should cut it but u might not wanna cut it too short up to ur shoulderz it might not look so nice that short. HOPE I HELPED!! & GOOD LUCK!!! :)
Since u just added ur addittional detail about the trim then I think u should just trim and maybe cut off a couple more inches only 2 or 3 more. Again.... GOOD LUCK!!! :)

Super long hair such as that does not look very professional; unless you plan to keep it in a bun every day, I'd consider cutting it. Maybe you don't want to go all the way to your shoulders on the first whack, but it'd be nice if you could get enough cut off so it could be donated to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for kids who've lost their hair because of cancer treatments. I think the minimum length they can use is six or eight inches. You can check them out at www.locksoflove.org. Even if you cut eight inches off, your hair will still be past your shoulders, so you could get a feel for how you like that without going any shorter for the time being.

Well, I used to have hair up to the middle of my back and I got it cut to my shoulders. At first, it was weird because I kept running my hands through my hair and used to wonder where all my hair went. (haha) But after a while, I was really happy because I got actually style it in so many new ways and it didn't require so much attention either. People told me that I looked a lot more mature with my hair shorter which is GOOD because I hate it when people think I'm still 14 or something. (I'm 16!!!)

I'm a college student also so I know what your talking about. My hair has been all different lengths. Now it's at my bra strap area and I love it. I found that talking honestly with a hair stylist can REALLY work. If possible spend some extra money and go to a nice salon. The last two times I've had my hair cut I told the stylist to be forward with me and tell me the best cut for my facial structure.
I had long hair and went to a medium length with side angle bangs. It was one of the best changes I made to my hair. Also, I am able to style my hair in so many different ways that I wasn't able to do before!

My hair's never been as long as yours, but I have had a lot (3-4 inches) cut off. It felt a little strange at first but I liked the cut and I had good reactions from people I know. And even now when I get my hair cut, the first week I feel like it's too short and then one week later I feel like it's too long! (I think I just get used to it quickly).
How about trying a modest cut (say 3-4 inches) and then see if you're feeling brave enough to cut off more? It'd cost extra to go twice to a salon, but it might be worth it.

I haven't cut my hair in years and now it's over 3 feet long.
I can't remember anyone telling me not to cut my hair...I wish they would! Complements make you feel good. If people say you shouldn't cut it and you don't really want to cut it then don't. People usually don't stop someone with short hair to tell them how beautiful it looks because short hair is very common; extremely long hair is, in contrast, rather rare.
Be Proud of your hair! It makes people notice you.
Tons of people tell me my hair would look good short, but I love it the way it is.
If you have trouble with people not taking you seriously, you can put your hair in a bun.

My wife use to be a model. She had hair down to her belt when we got married, at age 18. All her life she has had long hair. She is now age 51.
As you probably have seen, the older women get, the shorter their hair gets. Many older women hair cuts like men.
My wife STILL has her hair 1/2 way down her back. She goes to a hairdresser every 3 months to have it professionally done; ash blonde with highlights. EVERYONE complements her hair. It makes her look 20 years younger.
Every day it takes her 2 hours to style her hair before she goes to work. She is a manager of 3,800 employees. I believe her hair is an asset.
The only thing you should do is make your hair blonde if it is not already. Women who are blonde are taken more seriously than any other hair color.
Hope this helps.

I used to have long hair and I decided to get it cut short. After I had it cut I loved it because it was much easier to manage. I never regretted having it cut. Just remember, if you don't like it, your hair will always grow back. So, I say go for it.

Yes I just did because I finally decided I want more than one hair style in this lifetime and now I love it and it is fun and easy to style. I can always grow my hair back but for now I will enjoy a different hairstyle. As far as how people treat me, I wouldn't cut it because of how people will treat you but because you want to try something new. You only live once and now is the time to do it.
