I am an American, immigrating to Australia. I need to purchase a "VOLTAGE REGULATOR TRANSFORMER", at least 2000 watts, much preferably 3000 watts or higher. I have seen them on Ebay, however, the shipping is just way too expensive. Does anybody know of any place where I can purchase one in Australia, preferably in the Brisbane area???

the watts you mention are very high what are you running? here in Australia home voltage is 240 volts @ 10amps for power out lets and lights. and 240 volts @ 15 amps for stoves/ ovens and A/C.. this is all over Australia no matter what state you go to.if you are thinking of bringing things like t.v. etc it would be better to get them here and cheaper. the cost of bringing them here would be more than getting new from here

Listen to John B. Not only is Australia 240 volts, it's 50 Hz instead of 60 Hz. While most electronics would work on the 50 Hz if you converted the voltage, some things won't. Some items will actually have a switch somewhere on the back to switch from 120 VAC to 240 VAC. Still, since you are immigrating, you would probably be better off just replacing your electronic items.

The voltage regulator transformers are so expensive to ship because, especially at that rating, they have transformers in them that are heavy.

Follow John B.'s advice. The alternative is to take a generator with you. Anything you buy over there will be for the standard over there. Your other option is to build your equipment. I doubt that you want to do that. Who knows what the fee to take that stuff into Australia would be? You might wind up paying for new stuff just by paying to get the old stuff into the country.
