No.

Harry Potter is fiction written by a member of the Church of Scotland (Rowling is Presbyterian). It has much Christian symbolism.

I have no doubt that JK Rowling has read old texts on witchcraft, as well as various myths, folktales, and fairytales - for inspiration. While Harry Potter doesn't have real witchcraft in it, it does have a mythological structure to it, as does the Odyssey and the original Star Wars trilogy. Take a look at Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces.

As for anyone who decides to practice witchcraft due to having watched or read Harry Potter (or any work of fiction, for that matter), they are usually publicly derided by serious practitioners of witchcraft as "wanna-bes", "fluffy bunnies", or the more traditional term "cowans".

*snort* I LOVE Harry Potter and I am a Christion. I am a kid and know I'm not a demend child, I don't practis witchcraft or anything like that. I really don't get why some people think that Harry Potter is the devil and all that stuff. Mabey they should read the books. They certenly helped me get into reading. All little kids want to belive in magic. If you are against Harry Potter becuase of "evil witchcraft" then I gusse you never let you kids belive in santa or the tooth fairy. Mircles are like magic. Kid's are not stpuid, so if we are over 8 or 9 we know that there is know witch craft. And if you ever here a kid say "I want to be like Harry Potter" well don't panic people. Really who does not want to live in a magic world?

I don't think Harry Potter is witchcraft. It is just a book. When I think witchcraft, I think of someone teaching how to harm others using spells and other such methods. Harry Potter is a ficitional book. Not a guide to teaching the world sorcery.

Harry Potter is a witch. He does witchcraft. Is that a big deal?

Technically, he goes to the school of witchcraft and wizardry, so I'd have to go with yes.

But is he evil? Of course not. If you'll notice, the witches and wizards in that series are Christian.

And there is no magic that you can learn from harry potter anyway. They speak in Latin and wave around sticks, for crying out loud.

Harry Potter is a fictional wizard, born from the mind of J.K. Rowling and loved by millions of people around the world. Again, it is fiction and therefore technically not witchcraft. Anyone who thinks it's evil needs to get their head out of their ***.

Lol, well, yeah! He goes to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, it's not satanic or evil, just fun! The books don't tell kids "Hey, you should be a witch and do these spells too!" The most important thing is the series is getting kids into reading again! That can't be bad!

No I don't think Herry Potter is witchcraft.
Yes it has witches in it, but that dose not make it witchcraft. If you think a kids movie like Herry Potter is witchcraft, then what do you think of the Halloween Holiday. Do you think it is witchcraft too?

Well he is a witch, he practices magic and witchcraft. Now, the book itself or the stories, ofcourse NOT!!! that's ridiculous, its just like any one of the other million books that have been written about witches, magic etc... its a book, a fictional story, made for the enjoyment of people. I'm tired of people that have nothing better to do but critisize Rowling and her stories about going against religion and all that bs. If you dont' like it DON"T read it, or DON"T pay any attention to it, ignore it and go preach to someone else. These books have been made famous because of that exactly, that the majority of people who have heard about it, read them or seen the movies love these stories... Anyways, this woman is a genius and should keep writing these stories forever because forever she will have fans. Harry Rules!
