Congratulations. Honestly i think that the ring should not be his Birthday/Christmas present to you. If its because he now has no more money to spend, come on that just doesnt cut it with me. Maybe he should have given you the ring on Christmas and had given you a less expensive gift for your birthday. If he doesnt buy you anything this year do to the ring then so be it. But as for you getting him something to compare it to you cant unless you have alot of cash to blow. Im assuming that it was an expensive ring right? Anyway i think that you should just buy him what you were planning on before you got engaged for his birthday. For Christmas give him another gift. If he trys to compare it to the ring then you need to question the rest of your life together. I think that he will be happy with what you buy him even if its not what he had wished for. Just you saying Yes to his proposal should keep him jumping up for joy for a long time right? Im not a materialistic person Id like you to know. I just think that if you dont have the money to buy flowers then go pick some in the yard to show me that you care and so forth. The money thing doesnt cut it with me.

It isn't a contest. If you attempt to turn it into one, you will have a long road ahead of you. Please don't start down that journey.

Why don't you figure out something that the two of you enjoy doing together and get something which will enable this. It seems a good way to start a life together is to build pleasant memories. Maybe a digital camera to help save these memories?

get what you can afford. Don't stress yourself out with "gift" giving. I don't believe he purchased you a ring for you to meet &/or beat what he's done. Make his birthday/Christmas something to remember. Wine and dine at home, creating a very romantic "home" envirnnment with all "his" special trimmings (i.e, food, drink, PS2 games, magazines subscribtions; rims for his tires, leather coat; nice watch, sporty leather coat, tennis shoes...anything affordable). And wrap yourself in a HUGE bow; give him YOU, a priceless gift he can keep forever!

Congratulations!!! A car would be nice. just kidding. You could arrange a very romantic getaway or dinner, depending on your budget. Just be good to him, everyday of the year. I think that is the most wonderful gift we can give anyone.

I think he already got his Christmas and birhday present. You! Have a romantic dinner or something. Spend some time alone. Talk and laugh with eachother and enjoy life.
