1. "Know thou of a truth that the soul, after its separation from the body, will continue to progress until it attaineth the presence of God, in a state and condition which neither the revolution of ages and centuries, nor the changes and chances of this world, can alter. It will endure as long as the Kingdom of God, His sovereignty, His dominion and power will endure. It will manifest the signs of God and His attributes, and will reveal His loving kindness and bounty."
2. "As to the question whether the souls will recognize each other in the spiritual world: this fact is certain; for the Kingdom is the world of vision where all the concealed realities will become disclosed. How much more the well-known souls will become manifest. The mysteries of which man is heedless in this earthly world, those he will discover in the heavenly world, and there will he be informed of the secret of truth; how much more will he recognize or discover persons with whom he hath been associated. Undoubtedly, the holy souls who find a pure eye and are favored with insight will, in the kingdom of lights, be acquainted with all mysteries, and will seek the bounty of witnessing the reality of every great soul. Even they will manifestly behold the Beauty of God in that world."
3. "... a love that one may have entertained for any one will not be forgotten in the world of the Kingdom. Likewise, thou wilt not forget (there) the life that thou hast had in the material world."
4. “The inscrutable divine wisdom underlies such heart-rending occurrences. It is as if a kind gardener transfers a fresh and tender shrub from a narrow place to a vast region. This transference is not the cause of the withering, the waning or the destruction of that shrub, nay rather it makes it grow and thrive, acquire freshness and delicacy and attain verdue and fruition. This hidden secret is well-known to the gardener, while those souls who are unaware of this bounty suppose that the gardener in his anger and wrath has uprooted the shrub. But to those who are aware this concealed fact is manifest and this predestined decree considered a favor. Do not feel grieved and disconsolate therefore …”

Here's some really good news for you!
It has been proven now in Labratories by Quantum Physisists that human conscienceness is made up of Pure energy. And energy never dies! It has no beginning (except for when God supposedly made us, however he did that) or no end. It only changes form!!
Therefore, yes my friend, there are choiced to be made after Death. It's all good! Don't take my word for it. Read this book. "Gods, Genes and Conscienceness, written by Paul Von Ward. Order it online or at your local bookstore, and enjoy it. THEN, start in on his recommended list of additional books in the back, and It will change your life!!!

My friend this is death and life will begin when you accept Jesus as Lord. You are going to live forever, resurected to live connected to God or to be seperated for ever, which is death. Being seperate from Truth and knowing the Truth is a miserable thought. Could that be hell? I am sure that is part of it but comes way short of discribing the misery of being seperated from Truth/God forever. You will see God and you will be judged of Him. That will be a reality that you cannot deny. After that if you have not accepted Jesus then you will be sent away knowing what you have learned but forbidden to participate. Not for me. I am not willing to take the chance. Besides I have been with God long enough to know Him personally. I never want Him to leave my side. NEVER

"but now I want to believe" I think that should sum it up rather gracefully, you want to believe, most modern religions have an afterlife in them, and sure you could go with the whole ghost spirit thing. But could you truly believe these things whole-heartedly?
There is not much logic behind religion, I’m not trying to sounds mean but it is based on faith. Can you really just believe things because they appeal to you? And to answer the question I have no clue what happens after death, but i don't pretend to either.

The body rots away, leaving only the bones.
The soul is a man-made invention to explain to the weak-minded how they can get to heaven ... after all, the body stays here, so there has to be a fantasy explanation.
None of us want to die. All of us want to live forever. Ain't like that in the real world. One just has to accept reality and cope like mature adults.
ATHEISM - THE ONLY LOGICAL CHOICE.

The one who learnt Quran but then ignored it and for the one who oversleeps the Prayers (eg Fajr).
He will have his head smashed open with a solid rock until the day of judgment. Some narration also state that his body shall also be smashed.
The one who consumes Usury (Interest).
He will swim in a river of blood or boiling tar and every time he wants to get out, a person at the bank will smash a rock into his mouth, crushing his teeth etc. The person will fall back into the river and the process will continue.
The adulterer or adulteress.
These people will be in a clay lined pit and shall be burned from beneath. The force and heat of the fire will force them up the walls of the pit but they shall never come out as Allah wills. Their bodies will be roasted. In another narration it states that at the same time, they will be stoned with rocks of fire.
The following punishment is from Sunan Abu Dawud: Hadith No.4860 and also "Sahih al-Ja'mi" 2/926:
The Backbiter:
They will have nails of copper that will scratch at their faces till the Day of Judgment. Their copper nails will rip their skins and their eyes and the insides of their mouths until their is nothing left. Then Allah will restore their faces and the punishment will begin again.
From Al-Bukhari (I believe).
The one who abondons Salat or whos Salat is not accepted:
They will perform Wudu with boiling fluid that will melt their skins. Then they will perform their Salat that they missed or that was not accepted on a scorching floor of fire. (Another narration states, on a floor of fire and nails). This will continue till the Day of Judgment.
Other narrations mention insects, worms and snakes that will eat at the body.

As many experiences as I have had with spirits (and yes, people, I am a Christian), I have to believe that each soul moves to the next plane of existence. No, you won't cease to exist. I think our karma here determines the next plane, though.

I think that we are still around in the hearts and minds of people that we have left behind. I don't believe that they can come back as ghosts or spirits, but i believe they come back as angels if they have gone to heaven.

you separate from your body. The first impression after death is you seeing your body, and it being motionless and the activity at the place where your body is. You stay around for up to 3 days but then, your astral body also dies and all that is left is your soul which is sent to a higher or lower plane of spiritual life, depending on your spiritual state of sin or salvation.
So guide yourself accordingly.
