The moment humans evolved far enough to need religion, it was the beginning of the end. There is not a major religion that has been created that has not caused at least significant harm, and most of them have caused massive destruction to a large amount of people.

No, man has doomed mankind. He is his own worst enemy, consistently destroying the legnth of his existence just by his greedy decisions and not thinking of the future. So, regardless of religion, man has doomed mankind more than any subsector such as religion (which is only a contributing factor but just a smaller part of the whole) can.

False religion has caused mankind to fight and struggle all over the world. The religious leaders use their position to make the people divide over the issues. We may not be throwing bombs into others churches but they are definitely divideing the country.
The USA has seen a surge in fighting between various religious views and the Republicans has fueled it by saying they are the Christians and the others are heathens. It is one step before an all out civil war, with religon behind it, fueling the fires.

I don't know anything about 19 virgins, but religion hasn't been a plus for mankind to be sure...we'd be far more advanced by now if humans throughout history hadn't been living (and dying) for their gods, and had been trying to figure out (earlier) why things occur and not just attributing to them to their gods...
Religion has been a major cause of war and strife and greed throughout history...not to say people still wouldn't fight, have strife, or be greedy, but at least w/o religion it would be done more honestly.

Religion will self distruct, but the reality of Jesus as Lord and God as the Father, and the Holy Spirit as the Teacher and comforter, will never pass away. Truth is eternal and not religious. Religion is mans concept of reality and God is that reality. Just eleminate the religion and accept the reality and you've found the Truth.

Religion has always been around. If that alone was going to doom mankind, we would have been exinct long ago.
However, I think modern warping of religion--almost all religions are getting wraped--will lead to something REALLY negative.
