I was a 26 when I got married, and there were dresses in store, and I'm in a city of only just over 200,000. There was a selection too, so I didn't have to "settle" - I got a nicer and prettier dress than I ever could have imagined, of bridal satin, with appliques, pearls and crystals all over. It had a basque dropped waist - consider that, it hides the belly. The dress was actually sized 24, and the zipper closed (! you know what I mean), but they added "V" shaped pieces under the arms, and you could not even tell it was altered at all - it was amazing.
I wouldn't buy on line - too many things to go wrong. Best to go in person, however far you have to travel, then they will just need time for alterations.
I wish you all the best. Don't give up and don't settle for less. I thought I would maybe have to hire a seamstress to make me just a plain white gown, and once I found the dress I bought, I felt like a princess on my wedding day, complete with tiara and a tall dark and handsome prince!
By the by, my dress was just over 700, about 50 for the alterations I think (dirt cheap for the work and the miracle she did), tiara and veil just over 100.

Actually there's this really pretty dress and in a size 32 on IGIGI's site: http://www.igigi.com/plus-size-clothing/The-Bride.html
They have a great selection... it's better in person than on the site. They have a boutique in San Francisco, CA. I have the "Charming Crochet Lace Dress" that I bought to go to a wedding... which wasn't a good idea cause everyone thought my dress outspoke the bride's dress (my mistake). I've seen their newest gown (it's in the $200 range), but it's so beautiful and worth any bride with the lace gown with shrug.
Having someone tailormake your dress is time consuming and might cost you less getting a gown on their site... I almost have every single dress... and you won't be disappointed!

Any good bridal shop can order your size and then have you fitted, David's Bridal has been suggested and I will also give it my vote, My daughter is a "big girl" and she found several dresses in the larger plus sizes. She was able to choose and not settle, they did alterations where needed and she looked as beautiful as her dreams. Good luck but hurry up you do not need to waste anymore time.

Alfred Angelo has a beautiful selection of wedding gowns for the plus sized woman. When I got married I wore one of his gowns and it was beautiful. The wedding boutique I went to had about 7 designs in stock and I was even able to try it on in my size. Go to his web site and then click on the store locator. It will let you know if there are any stores near you that carry his line. If there are try calling ahead to see if they have any in your size. Even if they have it one size smaller you can at least get an idea of how it will look.

Unles he proposed this week, I don't understand why you have waited so late to look for a dress. Even if you find something online, there's a good chance they won't be able to get it to you in time. And what are the chances it fitting perfectly?
You might just want to hit the malls starting tomorrow and see what you can find. Do not rule out prom dresses or any other formal wear.
But in case you want online

Have one made by a seamstress just for you.
Chooses a pattern that can be made in your size, and have a seamstress make it.
Overall, it won't be anymore expensive then ordering one and having it altered, as you always have to do.
