I enjoy dove and quail hunting in north Texas and own a Beagle.

I've always had beagles and they were mainly rabbit dogs but they also flushed pheasants and woodcock. They have excellent noses and can smell the birds. Mine won't pick up the woodcocks though. There are no quail where I hunt in NY or PA. and I've never used them for dove but they should do fine. Good luck.

i had a terrific little beagle. she was the best bunny dog i ever saw
i would take her on quail hunts and after shooting a quail i would let her smel it and she would go in the bushes and flush them for me
she would not point or retrieve but at least she could get them up instead of running like they do much of the time.
she enjoyed being out with me .

Beagles make excellent quail and pheasant dogs.

beagles were bread to hunt rabbits or deer. good luck training a dog that has no birdiness to retrieve properly.

I think any dog can be taught to do it.
