Dogs bark when they sense danger and they want to seem intimidating by making scary, loud noises like barking. Dogs also bark sometimes as a form of communication. For example, when my dog senses danger he barks low and deep. But when I lock my dog out in the backyard, he barks really high pitched, like yelping, because he wants to come back in and he's calling to me.

Dogs have an amazing ability to communicate with other dogs and humans. They sense the natural and sometimes spiritual things that humans sometimes can't sense or see. A dogs bark can say anything from " I want to play!" to " There's danger!". A dogs bark has saved many lives from people stuck in hard to reach places and other incidences in which a persons life was in danger. Also a police dog can sniff out illegal drugs and warn his or her master by barking.

Dogs can communicate a lot of different things by barking. A few examples include:
* "Look, there's someone here!"
* "Keep away, I'm tough"
* "Wahoo! I see/smell something I want to chase!"
* "I really, really want to play!"
* "I would like to go outside to potty"
* "I'm so excited I don't know what to do with myself!"
* "Hey, I'd like some attention!"
You could probably come up with a few more.

This brings to mind a Gary Larson comic about a scientist who invented a dog translator. Turns out, the dogs are saying, "Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!"
