This is the reason for the Catholic principle about the sacraments "ex opere operato." Everyone sins. If the validity of the sacraments depended on the complete holiness of a priest then we could never receive Jesus in the Eucharist, never be forgiven in the sacrament of Reconciliation, and never be validly married (since in Marriage the couple ministers the sacrament to each other, and I've never met a perfect bride and groom.) If you look at the Gospels, you see how they point out the failings of Jesus' apostles. (If you were going to make up a religion, would you start it with a story of the dumb things its first leaders did?) Jesus said about some of the religious leaders of his own time, follow the truth they teach but not the bad example they give. Let's do that too and be glad that the church welcomes sinners -- us included.

Talk to another priest about this and consider talking to the priest whom you think is lying. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding--perhaps not. At any rate, being a priest does not excuse lying ... it just places a greater responsibility against his own soul. He is a man - not a god.
If you have no other priests to discuss this with then write to your bishop or to the vocational director at your Chancery office and ask for guidance from them. Don't be afraid to say exactly what you know to be true. Don't surmise based on hearsay.
Remember, a person's reputation is as fragile as an egg shell. Once broken, it can not be made whole again. Good luck and God Bless you and we will pray that He will help ease your troubled mind.

How do you know he is telling lies? Anyway it does not matter the holiness of the pastor it is for YOU to not follow what he is doing wrong. I hope you understand that and not lie like your "messed up" priest.

So this is the church of 'Don't do what I do, do as I say'!
Maybe you should spray snow foam on his rear windscreen on Christmas Eve stating 'God forgives lying priests'
Oh, that's not very Christmassy is it. Just feel sorry for him and his boring repetitive sermons. We are all as qualified as your priest to deal direct with our higher power - you can bypass him if you want and tell your higher power what a lying toad he is.

Your priest seems to be a bit of a hypocrite. He may be a compulsive liar whose self-hatred is directed at other liars like him. Direct him to psychiatric help if it really is a compulsive thing. Can't you find another church in the meantime?

Follow what priests say, not what priests do.
Or try a different parish.

I would try to remember that priests are human, not God. Try to forgive him and ignore his condemnation and go about your religion honey.
