Here are some environmentally friendly ways to dispose of cooking grease:

STEP 1: Allow the oil to cool completely before disposing of it.

STEP 2: Decide whether the oil needs to be discarded. Oil used for deep-frying can usually be reused several times. Strain it into a clean sealable container.

STEP 3: To throw it away, carefully pour it into a strong sealable container, such as an old plastic jar with a lid. Many households save jars for this purpose. Plastic jars are better than breakable glass ones.

STEP 4: If the amount of oil is small, place the filled, sealed jar in the trash.

STEP 5: Take large amounts of cooking oil to the local landfill.

STEP 6: Alternatively, recycle large amounts of used cooking oil with the help of a cooperative local restaurant. Most restaurants have used grease bins, whose contents are recycled into consumer products. Ask if you can add your used oil to their grease bin.

STEP 7: Used cooking oil can also be composted with other organic matter. If you have a compost

DO NOT POUR IT DOWN THE DRAIN!

First let the grease get to a cool temperature.
Second, pour into a container such as an empty coffee can with a lid and store for additional grease. When container becomes full, put in plastic bag from the grocery store and dump with your garbage. Sometimes I also just dump it in a used Ziploc bag, seal and dump. Good Luck. Hope this helps.

If your plumbing is good you should be able to put it down the sink as long as you run hot water from the tap at the same time. If you have plumbing or septic tank issues, you would be better off saving old coffee cans or other type cans with lids, and pour the grease into them.

1. Pour it in a used jar w/ lid and stick it in your garbage.

2. If you have a garbage disposer, run super hot water, dishwashing liquid, and the oil down the drain. Follow w/ plenty of water and more detergent to break up the oil.

ETS: Agreed that oil is completely biodegradable... so what makes anyon think it won't be broken down by sewer bacteria?!

pour the cooled grease into a jar, screw on the lid and toss into the trash. Do not pour down your household drains , unless you like having to call the plumber!

aliitle bit, like from frying bacon, i pour in some dawn dish soap and hot water and send it down the drain. Lots of it, i have a spot ouside to pour it out. its biodegradeable so no big deal. we are not allowed to have jars, cans or plastic in our garbage ( all recyled) so that is not an option.

Let it congeal.
Then dispose of it in a jar along with the cooking foil you cooked in.

Save coffee cans and their lids. When you need...pour the oil into the coffee can and store away. When the can is filled dispose in your weekly trash.
