what can I do to get him to use the toilet. He doesnt take his diaper off to go to the bathroom I usually have to help him with that then he just sits there on the toilet and after about a minute he takes a piece of toilet paper and wipes and then throws it in the toilet and flushes then runs out of the bathroom. Am I doing this right, ( I am a single mom with a fiancee that just moved in) His dad does watch him but still treats him like hes 6 months old. Please help me.

He is right on schedule and you are doing everything right! The good thing is he is not afraid of the toilet, and with male toddlers this is the biggest hurdle. Also with male toddlers, usually, the fecal muscle does not fully develop until they are closer to three years of age, so I would not worry too much at this point. Just keep taking him, eventually he will get what you are trying to do and use the potty. Most important have lots of patience at this time, it is very crucial that you remain positive and the process will go easier, for both of you.

Sounds like he is on the rite track. He is interested that's good. Just keep encouraging him.If you don't already have one get Little potty for him put it in the bathroom. Take him in there often without his diaper and have him sit on it while you sit on the"big potty" Sooner of later he will actually go .When this happens make a huge deal out of it.I mean huge! tell him that he is such a good boy.Such a big boy. If he has an accident in his diaper don't say much just clean him off take him to the potty and have him sit.Tell him this is where big boys go when the have to pee/poop. He will get the Idea. It may take a while but he will get there I promise.

Children, in general, do not develop the muscular control to "hold" it until after 2 1/2 years of age. This is why they can't potty train yet, because even when they feel the urge, they can't stop it yet. Likewise, it is good that he imitates you - this will help out. Eventually he will need a man to teach him how to pee standing up, but you are doing good for now. Also, when it is time to potty train, make sure and get him some pull-ups. Diapers are confusing and hard to get off. Best of luck!

You can't force him to potty train. 2 yrs. is a little young, especially for boys who tend to potty train later than girls. Just let him keep doing what he is doing, at least he's getting the idea. As he gets a little older he will start telling you when he is dirty and wants to be changed and that is when you really start pushing potty training. As for sitting on the toilet like you, that is what I taught my boys to do. At home they sit! It is less mess for me to clean up. When they are using public bathrooms, they know to stand. Works like a charm!

hes getting the idea and thats what matters right now! you cant force or rush potty training because you dont want it to back fire! what has been helping me train my daughter has been the Elmo potty book and the Dora potty book. we sit on the potty ad read those until she uses the potty! we are getting there part of the time she used it successfully by herself for the first time today!

And by the way i love your screen name! LOL

Most boys are not potty trained until over three. Wait. I have three boys. The older two, at three and a half I told them after a certain date their diapers were going away. My youngest did it by himself at three.

Right away, boys often just go to the bathroom like girls do. Slowly teach him (or ask someone to teach him) to go to the bathroom like a guy. But right now, just let him be. He'lll learn eventually.

If he's not even 2 yet, he's still too young. Children aren't ready to potty train until they are able to tell you when they need to go. He's not old enough to understand it yet.

Don't play house. You should be married to a man before he moves in with you. Remember God is watching. God bless.
