My dog seems to always want to play. Even when I try to be serious with him and try to dicipline him he still thinks I am just playing with him. I am trying to teach him some commands but he just thinks I am playing with him. It makes it very difficult to teach commands. Any suggestions.

We teach the command "Enough" and "Settle" to switch between playtime and no playtime.

If your dog is too "high" to pay attention to you, put him in his crate for a sec and think about what he likes the most. Is it a chance to play ball with you? Does he like food as much as playing with toys? Food is often easier to manage than toys - so use really great treats that your dog loves, that you know he will always take from you. It would be fun and productive for you to start with the Doggie Zen game (link below) and to learn something about clicker training, which was started by dolphin trainers in the 1970's and is a very clear, positive way to teach your dog things.
Remember that a happy, energetic dog will always go find something else to do if you and your treats are not exciting enough. Keep him on leash when you work with him so that he doesn't go wandering and always stay upbeat. Also, keep your training sessions short. If you find yourself getting frustrated, be sure to take a break. Good luck!

First you have to get the dogs attention a favorite treat will usually do the job. Dogs don't instinctively know what you want so start slow and have short (5 mins at first) lesson sessions increasing each week by 5 mins until desired behavior is obtained. Always end on a good note. The dog just like kids learns through play. If you make it a bad experience it wont want to do it. Reward and praise only good behavior and ignore or correct bad. Do not give the dog a treat unless it does what you want. The rest is patience. Repetitive teaching is how they learn. Their desire to please will encourage them.

first of all always stick with the same command. For my dog we always use the command "no". if the dog gets to out of hand then take the skin on the back of its head and pull it and say no. and don't worry.....this doesn't hurt the dog. This is what the mother does to it. and also....NEVER HURT THE DOG OR SLAP THE DOG. This will cause the dog to loose trust in you.

I do believe my dog is smarter ,than most of the men I have ever dated. Just like a child be stern and look them in the eye with a serious tone and they will understand. Do this with much love,at least 100 times and many kisses will follow...

man..that reminds me of my dog...my dog is very playful...but when you talk to your dog..change your tone and be strict so that he'll listen....your dog will eventually know when you're being serious...or when you want to play....its just the way you talk to him..it makes a difference....
