This has been going on for nearly 4 months.
This (really really really cute) guy in the grade above me has known I like him (my friend's brother told him)
he hasn't made any attempt to talk to me and I've never talked to him. he doesn't act any different at all.
i would DIE to know what he thinks of me.

good chance he's just not thinking about you at all. Perhaps he does not care if you like him. and now days, there is a possibility he's into other boys and not into girls.

Sorry, the fact that you had someone else tell him means he is not interested in you.
Especially since he has not made a move then. He is simply is not interested.
Hope this doesn't make you go to a Catholic coventry and live a monk lifestyle.
BUT, there's plenty of guys to go around. So no need to "monk" ey around.
