I have been in the Army for six years now. I have been to Iraq twice already and I am still surprised at the amount of people who have no clue what is going on over there. You see, the problem isn't you or your service to your country. The problem is that there are a select group of "soldiers" who are doing unmentionable things over there. When the media finds out abou these things, they report on them instead of the good things. This, in return, makes the nation believe that ALL soldiers are over there raping and killing innocent citizens.
You know where you stand. If you are doing your job as a soldier and following the law, you shouldn't even worry about what some people believe. I am proud of you for making a commitment to your country. I know what it is like to serve and sometimes you ask yourself what you are doing it for. But, in the back of your head, you have to remember, this isn't for gratitude or personal glory...it's for your children and grandchildrens future. And, no matter what kind of hate mailyou recieve, you cannot let that deter you from securing their future.

The people writing you hate mail are living off mommy and daddy sitting in cafes drinking lattes discussing the works of Marx and Lenin with pictures of Jane Fonda taped inside their notebooks being taught by knuckleheaded professors who were too lazy to get off their asses to get a real job so they stuck their noses in a few books to teach another generation of knuckleheads!
Now that I said that, thank you for doing what you are doing. Secondly, you are an AMERICAN of Mexican decent. Being an American is not a race, but an idea. Take care of yourselves and get home safe!

The fact that you have served means that you earned your citizenship instead of getting it through an accident of birth.
This is now your country. And you can be proud of the fact that you are a better citizen of _your_ country than those losers who sit back and whine.

Thanks for your service.
I hope you are a strong voice for all the good that is being done. These people who are sending you hate letters have nothing to do but talk $#!t about people because they are intellectual failures.
I agree with above poster - YOU TOTALLY ROCK.
