Dogs are very Physic. They do see spirits in the home. Spirits come to visit you. They are usually family members that have passed away. They are not ghost..If another pet has died their spirit will come around you too. It is nothing to worry about. Some dogs bark at their own shadows. Just pet him every time and tell him its ok. If he growls you may need your house cleansed by a physic. That would be a bad sign. But if he just lets you know they are there then his sniffing and barks are his ways of telling them that the house is territiory and go away..He is a good dog. Hope this helps. I some of your answers and the one about the girls dog that woke her at 3am and her dog was barking at the hallway. I have studied the Physic and I know for a fact that most spirits come to visit you at 3am and that girls dog saw one. She is not physic so she did not see anything. Your dog will see more when it rains that when the sun shines. It is easier for spirits to travel and visit when it rains. Has something to do with the electrial impluses.

I once had an elderly lady for a friend. She had a wonderful little dog. A mix of some sort. She had the dog trained well and it behaved very well. Learn here https://tr.im/liHoN

She kept an uncovered candy dish on her coffee table with candy in it. The dog was forbidden to eat the candy. When she was in the room observing the dog he did not even appear to notice the candy. One day while she was in her dinning room she happened to look in a mirror and could see her dog in the living room. He did not know he was being watched. For several minutes he was sitting in front of the candy bowl staring at the candy. Finally he reached in and took one. He placed it on the table and stared at it, he woofed at it. He stared some more, licked his chops and PUT IT BACK in the bowl and walked away. Did he want the candy, oh yeah. Did he eat it? Nope. They can be trained that well but most, I'll admit, are not trained that well. When I was a young boy, maybe 5 years old. We had a german shepherd. He was very well trained also. My mom could leave food unattended on the table, no problem. She would open the oven door and set a pan roast beef or roast chicken on the door to cool. No problem. He would not touch it, watched or not. But butter? Whole other story. You leave a stick of butter anywhere he could reach and it was gone. He was a large shepherd so there were not many places he could not reach. Really, I think the number of dogs trained to the point they will leave food alone when not being supervised is very small indeed.
.
Now if we are talking obedience training, not food grubbing, that is a different story. Way back when I was first learning obedience training one of the final exercises was to put our dogs in a down/stay and not only leave the room but leave the building for 15 minutes. The only person that stayed was our trainer, not the owners. Most of the dogs in my class did not break their stay, which would be an automatic fail. I'm happy to report my dog was one of the ones that passed.

she very much could be seeing a ghost or some kind of spiritual energy in the house or around it. My dog did the same exact thing he did it the first day we brought him home he ran straight to the the closet door and just started barking at it and wimpering and now he's howling at it w/ his stail stuck between his legs he won't go near it we got some guy to come in and check it out and he says there was a dog that died in the closet giving birth to her puppies and that's why my dog was barking at the closet the guy said that the 'dead' dog never moved on just stayed there i may have a theory that what my dog is doing w/ the closet may be the same thing ur dog is doing with w/e it is 'seeing'

Remember that dogs perceive the world mostly through their nose unlike us who perceive the world through our eyes. A dogs senses are so different from our own that they must perceive the world completely differently, they have a stronger sense of smell better hearing and poorer vision than humans. My dogs frequently bark at things I can neither hear nor see but may simply be mice in the walls or the neighbors cat that just ran across your yard while you weren't looking. Also consider that most dogs continue to bark at something long after it has left our sight of hearing, perhaps they bark as long they hear whatever set them off.

OMG I totally agree with the theory that dogs and other animals (especially cats) can sense paranormal activity. However there could be many reasons that she barks at nothing. Do you sense ghosts? That could lead you to a more informed decision.

My dog did the exact same thing. One time at about 3 in the morning she was growling and barking at something in the hallway but I did not see anything. It freaked me out because I have never seen her do anything like that! So in answer to your question I don't know.

She might be seeing a ghost. I've heard about a lot of dogs barking at something that humans can't see.

Maybe you have a mouse in your wall that's driving her crazy. Besides, how do you know she's sniffing at "nothing"? She can smell better than you, to an order of magnitude.
It sounds like she might be bored and anxious. Try distracting her with a chew toy when she starts ghost-busting, and don't get nervous or she'll think she really has something to be scared of.

dogs have great hearing, sometimes when you think the dog is barking at nothing you should consider he is actually listening to something you cant hear..I also believe they can see and sence other beings..i have experienced such things with my dogs..

Dogs and other animals have some senses that are more sensitive and covered a different spectrum than human.

They are capable sensing something you don't sense.
