I truly believe, every young parent asked them self that question one time or another..I feel letting children believe in Santa and the other are so important for children...it will give them happy memories...good thoughts..when the time comes when they get older..and they find out from a class mate that there isn't a Santa..then you can tell them the truth...I told my children when they asked me..(Way back when ...there was a kind man that made toys and gave them to children in his town..every year...There was no flying deers or any thing like that..just a nice old man...and brought laughter to all the children in his town...word passed around the world and invented the Santa as we know him today..to give joy and laughter to the children. Then the parents from all over saw the children were so happy they made up the Easter Bunny etc...) I feel when a child is old enough to ask you if there is or isn't a Santa ...they are old enough to tell the truth...But give them Happy Happy times when they are young and nascent..Hope this helps...

Because its all in fun. My family doesnt go overboard with any of that stuff though. I mean the kids basically know we buy the presents and with Easter, they really have never said anything about the Easter Bunny, because we just dont make a big deal of it. We tell them the true meanings of Christmas and Easter. Now as for the Tooth Fairy , there is not religious meaning about that one, so we do that out of fun. Its fun to wake up and wonder how money got under your pillow. Kids will eventually find out for themselves that it is not real.

We dont, and my parents didnt, for the very reason that it is a lie. Besides that, we're a religious family and if we lie to our children about santa who does all these wonderful things and gives us gifts, how can we expect our children to believe Christ and God are not lies as well?
Its foolish even if you're not religous, children have enough imagination and ability to celebrate without making up fictional charaters.
Personally I hate it.
I have a friend who's sister is 12, babysits, has her period, and looks like a grown teenager, yet she still believes in santa and cries anytime someone in school tells her he's not real. Her parents wont tell her the truth.
Honestly, its disgusting.

I don't think of telling children about Santa or the others are actual "lies" I believe it is good to teach a child to be creative, to think beyond whats real and fake, to give them things to believe in ect. I remember looking for santa as a child, i don't think of it as my mother lying to me....to me santa and the tooth fairy are a part of childhood and i sure wish i still believed. :-) Actual lies to children sometimes are for the better, until they are old enough to understand, like telling them things will be ok when the arent going so well.....things like that. Parents i think lie because the truth sometimes sucks bad enough for us as adults and why drag our children into it if we dont have to :-)

There's a fine line here, that depending on which side of the debate you are on - the line tends to either be very well defined or it blurs. I think it's important to instill the good morals, manners, appropriate behavior, respect, being chariatable-giving to others & treating all pll with kindness. Which Santa is a good example of those characteristics. Also, it can be explained - Santa is the spirit of Christmas of giving of sharing - smiles etc., and Jesus is REASON for the Season., being the birth of Jesus, & the story as your personal faith & beliefs warrants. It's important that we let our kids be kids, while they are kids, b/c all too soon they'll grow up.

Because children need hopes and dreams and this promotes them. My daughter was 13 before she stopped believing in Santa and the only reason she did is because her father and I got divorced and her father had her help him wrap presents.

Because its fun for them...they get cutesy lil toys and the fun of looking for the eggs at easter time...its all for them thats why we lie for them. You have to lie to your ch ildren at some point..youll do whatever it takes to protect them and thats being a good parent
