Exercise is good. Also, remember, as cats age, some develop a bit of flesh that appears to hang down from their stomach. It has nothing to do with weight, it is strictly a body/aging issue.
If it is truly a weight problem, some exercise wouldn't hurt. There are also a lot of high quality foods available to assist cats who need to lose a pound or two. Start with your vet and see what he/she thinks.

Try a food with more protein and less fat and carbs. Most foods Iams, Purina, Science Diet, etc. are mostly corn. Where would your cat get corn in the wild? Many cats become diabetic because of too many carbs. Wellness is a really good cat food.
Controlled portions of food may be necessary. Canned food has more fat, so you may want to cut back on that, but make sure she is drinking enough water if you do.
Also, buy or make her some toys and play with her. The more exercise the better.

I had a problem with my cats getting fat, so I switched to a high quality cat food (Iams) and then fed them twice a day the exact portions that the Iams company recommended.Within a few weeks they had visibly trimmed up. I also had less vomit to clean up. The cats would over eat until they were bloated then relieve themselves of it on my floors (yuck) But make sure that your cat has a clean bill of health before you put it on a different diet, just in case it's a medical problem causing the weight gain. Good Luck

Genetics sometimes play a role in the elasticity of a cats' belly. I had a neutered male cat with a sagging belly once. Couldn't understand why becuase he was active - climbed trees and ran and all that, but he also ate like a pig! Now, I have an overweight cat whose tummy is very well toned.

Feed your cat 1 cup of diet cat food a day. My cat is on the same diet now. But keep in mind, it will take a while for her to lose any weight since cats are so small.

Iams weight control helped my boy lose about five pounds (20 to 15). The pouch is probably her primordial pouch. It allows the cat to move and stretch the way she does. After my boy lost five pounds, his primordial pouch sagged more than it had when he was a healthy weight, but I never saw that it was a problem, and the vet never mentioned it.

My vet recommends Purina One. Find out from your vet how much your cat should eat in a day and give only that amount. Get you cat to play more often with you. Being overweight will shorten your cat's life. Good luck!!
