Jeez, big question. Do you think this is the best place to be asking. Whatever the outcome, I wish you all the best.

I have suffered from anxiety disorder and depression for many years. If you are having a hard time coping then the answer is YES, YES, YES! Definately go on meds. Theres no need to suffer when help is available. Antidepressants can drastically improve your quality of life and make you feel like your old self again. Without my meds I seriously dont think I could hold down a steady job or get through the simple tasks of everyday life. Go see your doctor ASAP, I am sure you wont be sorry.
Good luck to you. You can beat this thing!

Yes, it very well could be depression or a mood disorder of some type. Medication can work wonders. You should go into therapy. Find a therapist you trust. Many depressed people drink and do other things to boost their moods, so that is common. Also depression can be a flip to that as well. Whenever you stop doing something that is addictive like drinking, your system is changing and you go through various withdrawals and that can bring about depression. Either way, medication would be a great help to you, but do not mix it with alcohol. You have to limit or stop drinking to take certain anti depressants. So, see your doctor, be honest about your drinking and decide where to go from there. Also, if you plan on getting better faster, seek help from a qualified professional therapist.

WOW!!!! I'm VERY SORRY to hear you're having such trouble !!!! "Depression" is no joke!!! It can completely ruin a person!!!! I was diagnosed with "Manic Depression at the age of 12/13 and have been on and off of countless different meds over the years!!!!(I'm 30+). (I've also 'self medicated'...) I know a LOT of peolple whom have found GREAT relief -once finding the RIGHT RX!!! It's a long and 'trying' road to travel but if you never at least TRY, how will you ever know???? "Depression" IS completely debilitating!!!! It sucks your soul right out and stomps on it, then throws it into a ditch, then.....
Living with 'depression' is NOT LIVING at all!!!!! If you don't want to try any 'meds', why not(if you can bring yourself to do so-) join a "support group" for sufferers of depression??? Sometimes (yeah, it sounds cliche) 'talking' about things CAN help -even just knowing that you're 'NOT THE ONLY ONE' feeling like you do can be, at the very least, re-assuring.... YOU"RE NOT ALONE!!!!!! TALK TO SOMEONE!!!!!!!
(And from personal experience; I'd say "Try it!(RX.)" -The 'drinking' didn't help but maybe "Something" WILL...)

well, this sounds like a mid-life crisis to me. standard loss of excitement. the best thing to do is to either 1.) get on meds. this is a chemical fix, but not a permanent fix, or 2.) try some new stuff. learn an instrument, start an art, or do somethin that makes things feel new. take classes at a local community college for somethin you would like. i've heard art is a GREAT way to fix this because it makes you look at the world in an entirely new way.
