I've been thinking about getting a tatoo for a while, or ather, a *specific* tattoo for a while. My last name is Corbett, and I tracked down my family heritage. I found that the "family crest" is a Silver Shield with a Raven on top of it, and the "family motto" is "Deus pascit corvos." which translates "God feeds the ravens."

I've kind of been getting into learning about my family heritage, which consists of Scottish/Irish (Celtic all around), and Native American. I thought about getting a tatoo of a shield with a raven drawn in the middle , with a scroll/ribbon swirled around, with the words "Deus pascit corvos." written.

I'm not sure yet. If I'm gonna get a tattoo, I want it to be something meaningful (and something I'm not gonna regret later), but a cross just seems way too common. I don't like real colorful tattoos, but I like them to have a lot of detail. So, what are yall's thoughts on this?

I think its a great idea, you should get the shield and raven(darker) in black and grey and the ribbon in a vibrant color that would be hot...but ya i agree with the whole "common tattoo thing", get something thats meaningful....good luck!♥

keep thinking about it and save up for it. You should look into the black and grey tattoos, with fine lines for detail, if you dont like a lot of color. I like your idea of the family crest and all...I think tattoos should have meaning since they are being embedded into your skin.

Ive been wanting a tattoo all my life, Im 39....I never could decide on a design, or where, but have finally come up with something that is meaningful to me and all that and Im going to do it for my 40th.

In the meantime, research an artist who specializes in a style you like, then go to them when you are ready. Take your ideas and your money, have them work it up for you, place it and ink it!

I like the idea and in my mind what the design would look like. It's cool that you're into your heritage, but if you don't want a common tattoo, I wouldn't suggest anything Irish. For some reason, in the past few years, everyone and their mom wants to be Irish. I've seen a lot of Irish tattoo. Good Luck though, and get whatever it is that you want!

I think if you do get a tattoo it should be something meaningful to you and just for you i have only one tattoo it is just below my pants line and it is a road runner it is a long story why I got the roadrunner, lets just say it is my personal theme. but there is a story so if your going to do it small descet and personal that when and if you have grandkids one day and they happen to ask about your tattoo you be able to tell them some kind of story on it

I would first make sure I double check the meaning and the spelling of the motto and the crest, then yes, it's sounds cool. I'd go black and white. Then visit some of the shops your thinking about before you make your final decision on who and where....This is forever, you don't want to hide it, or regret it ....

I think it sounds like a great tattoo! I am all for tattoos having meaning behind them, not just something you picked off a wall. All of mine have a lot of meaning. I love your idea!

Well firstly you should think very carefully about getting on as you will have it for the rest of your life. Secondly think of the reason you are getting one.
