There are, well, over 600 denominations of Christians in the US alone. Primary differences over them:
1. Baptism - some require immersion, some require "pouring", some allow any (including sprinkling)
2. Scripture - some add other works, such as Mormonism (Book of Mormon), Christian Science (Science & Health), etc.
3. Mennonites reject modern conveniences (except one branch)
4. Some are Calvinist (believe in predestination, that is, no free will)
5. Some don't believe in music in church (Church of Christ)
6. Some worship on Saturday instead of Sunday (Seventh Day Adventists are but one of several)
7. Some believe in speaking in tongues, faith-healing, etc.
8. Doctinal differences are the biggie, though. Differing interpretations of the Bible (e.g., the Trinity - some reject, some hold minor theological differences, etc.)

It's both, the way we worship and/or live - and how we interpret the teachings of Christ.
I guess we all believe that Jesus is part of the Holy Trinity, one God in three persons, and that Jesus has died on the cross for the sins of the world.
We all have learned about the two "first and foremost commandments":
to love God, our creator, with all our being and above all material things,
and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
According to Jesus ALL "Laws" are derived from these two, which means that any deviations or interpretations not in line with these two, He considers invalid!
One of the hardest things to follow for us imperfect humans is to willingly think and act with compassion and forgiveness towards the “other”. Yet it has been taught by a number of “religions” including Islam.
But the concept appears to us as “not logical”, “impractical” or “unrealistic”. So we find excuses or make “interpretations” or pick more “logical” parts from our holy books to “justify” our actions, and forget about the basic truth.
That's what lead to the "holy wars" for instance, and many other practices that seekers of the Truth found faulty and came up with new teachings.
Unfortunately, those teachings were then subverted again by "human nature" and new "corrections" led to new denominations. Like humans they are not perfect, as Jesus was!
Many "religions" teach, as Jesus did, that compassion AND forgiveness toward ALL others is the straight and narrow path for us to follow. But He said that few will follow it.
Could you immagine, if all Jews, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sihks, Hindus and others, who ALL have been given the teachings of compassion and forgiveness, would live up to that? There would be peace on earth!!

There are many differing ways of worship. And many differing ways to live. Btw, a christian worships WITH the way he/she lives. If you are considering a denomination. Do so carefully and prayerfully.

Not all groups that call themselves Christian are recognized as Christian. To be recognized you basically have to agree to the The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into death.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.
*catholic means universal not necessarily the Roman Catholic Church
After the Church accepts that many of the differences are minor.

In reality, there is no difference among the denominations of chistianity, but one exception, each denominations think they are going to heaven when they die and the other denominations will all go to hell.

The differences usually hinge on doctrines and some misinterpretations of scripture.

Some are based on man made doctrine and some are based on what the bible says... what your minister says might not always be true. some religions have wrote their own bibles to suit what they say , these are the cults. you can go to one church where women are not allowed to wear pants and some where you can...
