MY 6 month old male cat will not use the litter box to pee, just my new carpet. When we got him home from the vet he peed in the kitchen but I just chalked it up to he had held it for a few days. He then later peed on the carpet. When I put him in the office to confine him with the litter box, he pushed most of the litter out and slept in it. Are there any solutions to get him to stop this?

After changing the litter like someone suggested, he went right into the litter box and used it instead of trying to sleep in it. It was clean but i tool the liner out and scrubbed it down....just like a cat, more human work to make them happy!

he is probably just a bit confused though there might be a medical reason for it - ask the vet. Maybe you could try changing the litter type in the tray., he might have taken a sudden dislike to it....maybe it's like the stuff in the vets he had to use after he'd had his goolies chopped off. Bad associations and all that.
You could also lift him periodically and put him in the litter tray, see if he just can't help himself and let go. You also have to make sure the litter tray is very clean all the time - some cats won't 'go' if there's traces of them being there before. I'm sure you do that clearing out thing regularly, but maybe, after his ordeal, he's just suddenly become an ultra fussy p.us.sy.

Final year my gorgeous Manx cat Theodore went out for the night and not ever came again. I really like cats and the apartment did not believe the equal without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very fearful and would pee all over the place the residence. I observed Cat Spraying No more on the internet and the strategies worked practically right away. I have never had a trouble with Lola due to the fact. Powerful! Can't stop your cat peeing within the house? Then fear no more...

That cat is mega-mad at you. And no wonder! Keep him confined for a couple of days, so he has to use the litter box. You'll have to get some special cleaning compounds to get the scent of cat-pee out of the carpet because if he smells it, he's going to go there again.
Part of this is likely because he's been away for a couple of days and he's marking out his territory, but part of it is probably that he's not happy with the way he's been treated.
Hopefully you can break him of this habit, but on the other hand, who knows what goes on in the mind of a cat?

Hi Samantha...if the neutering was done recently, he may be still in pain from the surgery and is associating this with the litter box when he tries to urinates. Or...he could have an secondary infection such as a urinary tract infection. Consider ringing the vet to see if he needs to come back to the clinic.

Make sure that he doesn't have a UTI or blockage which sometimes cause cats to "act out" as a way to let their owners know that something isn't right with them. If he is going in the same places it could just be habitual now, he can smell where he once went or even another cat several years back, but you did say that the carpet is new. Just check with your vet sure and let them do an exam, if its not medical than the vet can give you some ideas but its possible that its behavioral, it which there isn't much you can do, except let him go outside.

It is possible that your cat developed a urinary tract infection after the surgery. This is quite common. Think about where the pee comes from and where the surgery was done. People pick up infections in hospitals and cats can pick up infections in vets offices. I would suggest that, for this consultation, you pick another vet. I would be suspect of the sanitary conditions under which the surgery was performed.
