Try the glove compartment and under the tires. This may only work when the car is moving.
Seriously though, if you think you are being followed, go to the police. Better safe than sorry. You should also consider getting a protective order.

Sure it isn't in your phone? Several new phones have GPS in them and if you ever shared an account with them, they could've turned it on without you knowing. It might not get turned off if you changed numbers but didn't change phone companies.
Since you don't know cars, I'd suggest having a trusted mechanic inspect it for something unusual. If they find it, drop it in the back of a taxi!
