This has stirred you some what. I don’t think Jesus envisioned the church having such a relationship with money, but rather a relationship with God. The church needs money to operate and pay expenses as needed, but how much power does a church need if God is all power.
When churches cross the line, it is only a question of time before the truth is known about the “secret” charter of the power seekers.
If a church is about a bottom line every year, then the church is so in name only. As for me, I turn around at the end of every dead end.

As Christians we should give. The New Testament teaches to give what you want. That comes with a caveat. You will reap what you sow,,give what you want but if you are only giving a little and can afford much more then you will get back what you put into it. "God Loves a cheerful giver." We give for the furthering of God's Kingdom. Does he "need" us to give no, but it shows our willingness to be a part of Gods work and for caring about our fellow humans. The money is given to pay chruch admin (which is there to help save the people), the money is also given to help the poor or special programs of the church. Most Churches are open with where they spend the money. The only church that I know of that won't tell you specifically where money goes is the mormon church (LDS).

No you or your friends will not go to Hell if they don't give money to the church. Tithing is stated in the Bible and recommends you give at least ten percent o your earnings. It shows your love for God and your trust in Him. If you give to God you will receive from God. People make it seem like you have to earn your way to Heaven by the things you do. It's not true. There is only one way to Heaven and that is believing that Jesus died for you and He rose from the dead and will come back to us. That's it. Nothing else you do will get you there. Once you are past that part, which is hard for some, the rest comes naturally. You will want to do things to please God and show you are thankful for what He's done for you. Don't let people make you feel bad or guilty. If they don't believe in Jesus Christ, then no matter how much money they give they will never get to Heaven. They have no right to tell anyone their going to Hell, because they have no idea what is going on inside someones heart. Don't listen to them, listen to God. Talk to Him, and He will lead you in the right direction. Good luck and God bless.

I believe way back when I went to church, they used to call them "offering plates". They were considered offerings, not required payments. A church should never make one feel any way at all about the amount they offer. How would I feel? I would feel that I was not going to that church any longer!

Malachi 3: 8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
