Hi,
I shop a lot and to save time and money I use cheapest prices search engine. Almost every merchant is there and over a million consumer written reviews. You will find many other ways that will help you with questions.
You can shop online or you can go to a merchant and use the toll free phone number if you feel more comfortable shopping like that.
There are merchant reviews, product reviews, compare by brand and a lot more. I hope I helped you and I wish you good luck.

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for being a 10 MP camera.
I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.
The A620 was rated about twice as good as any as far a battery life. I hope the A630 and A640 are just as good. Use Energizer e2 LITHIUM batteries and you will be happy with battery life.
Huge storage depends on the memory card. Buy a 1 or 2 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

If you want a sleek, smaller camera that will easily fit in your pocket, consider the Canon Powershot SD600. It gives up some of the features of the A630 and 640, but at least it still has an optical viewfinder.

Nikon is getting ready to release the D40, their lower end SLR. For about $600 you will have a digital SLR camera, with a nice zoom lens, and can use most of the Nikon lens.
Or, for $400 you can go buy a nice point and shoot camera from Canon - their SD600 or later models. Very compact, fit in a pocket, have a 3 or 4x zoom, at least 6 MP, and they take very good pictures.
Both are automatic in they set the camera aperture and shutter speed, pop up the flash when needed, and will let you know if the light is too low. The Nikon should give you the option of manually setting those features as well as leaving it on automatic.
I have the Canon SD550 and am very happy with it. I also have the Nikon D80 and am even happier with that.

I bought a Casio Exilim 2 years ago. it's the old model. This is what i get with it
Slim and comfortable in your hand
optical zoon
5mp
Cool and neat extra feartures
8 hours or more battery life (using my judgment) If you use it like me (which is turning it out and taking it off when you don't need it. It can go on for 2 weeks.
Uses SD cards (the most aforable card on the market)
easy to use
very strong
big LCD screen
quick 3 hour charge
windows xp recognizes it so no driver is needed
hassle free
Let me just say that not once do I regret buying this camera. If i told you all the stuff it went threw... Then you'd be amazed at why its still working. I paid 200 bucks! And its every penny! EVEN MORE!

I bought a Kodak 650 Digital camera, it had 6.0 megpix and uses SD memory. I wouldn't even consider any memory less than 512k. 1GB would be better, fortunately $ of mem is coming down. I have this camera and am very happy. With all the photo capabilties it has (many) with 512K mem. I can shoot about 25-30 mins. of video to boot!, if I wish of course! That's why I always carry two 512's with me. Camera about 350.00 , two 512 memory chips 22.00 ea (on sale). I use high quality rechargeable batteries of my liking, about 20.00 for 4 bats and charger.

I bought a Fujifilm F700 2years ago, one of the first 5.0 meg. It is rechargeable, has card capability, is rugged, easy to use. Paid $500 for it, now the are under $300. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Great camera, great software, very easy to use. We bought the first camera, and found it too bulky. Took it back and purchased another, found it used batteries up quickly and was hard to focus. Took it back and purchased the Fuji, love it.
