Mens haircuts are usually more difficult that females in that any mistakes tend to show up a lot more.
Take your time. Depending on what style you're going for, you may need up to an hour.
Remember that most women's style tend to have an overall rounded shape, whereas mens' are more square, so avoid rounding off the line at the nape. I would say the most difficult part would be making sure that the sideburns are at the same height. Like I said before, take your time.

You could use scissor over comb, you can try notching if he wants to keep it long. It depends on the type of haircut he desires.

I would give him a trim of what he already has right now. Since it's your first male cut, play it safe. But if he wants a change, just ask him what he wants and go with that. Good luck.

If you just trimming it, you can use a comb that has Gillete on it.
If you want stylish hair, go to the salon. Safer.
