Went to MD. Diagnosis, swimmers' ear. Had allergic response to neomycin. Swollen, itching and bleeding. Went to specialist. Same diagnosis. Cleaned ears. Says it will take time, But in the meantime .....I am quite unhappy. Any advice appreciated.

You didn't say how long it has been sincy you went to the specialist. If the pain has stayed the same then just some regular pain medicine is about all you can do with it. If you have any friends that have vicodin or anything else with hydrocodone it might help a bit more as long as you don't have a codiene allergy. If it has been awhile though and it has gotten worse it may have progressed to a ear infection which would need antibiotics to treat. Just pay attention and don't hesitate to go back to a MD if it gets worse.

There are ear drops with pain medication in them. I use 'Similasan'! I warm it up and drop the warm drops into the ear and then put in a ear plug or cotton. It helps alot. Boy I "KNOW" how bad a ear ache is! I have a chronic ear problem and I have tried the blow dryer set low blowing into the ear, and slept on heating pads, and taken oral med, but this works best. Of course if you can get a prescription ear drop, they are a little better. I hope your swimmer ear clears up soon. Hang in there, but remember your not alone tonight with a ear problem. :)

I have problems with my ear, try taking some Tylenol PM. It has tylenol for pain and it also contains Benadryl. This usually helps me when regular pain killers don't.

Fair warning, take it at night, it makes me groggy.

Hot compress on your ear. It will make it feel better. Also try taking a Sudafed (the real one... now behind the counter).
