We have been on 10 Caribbean cruises and I the southern was the best, Aruba, Grenada, and Isla Marguerita were personal favorites. On the western we really enjoyed Costa Maya. No matter which one you pick you are sure to enjoy all the islands are beautiful and have something unique about their cultural heritage that makes interaction with locals so much fun.

I've been all over the Carribbean top to bottom, east to west. It depends what you like to do.
Scuba/snorkel: Bonaire, Belize, Aruba, Curacao, St. Vincent, Becquia, Cozumel.
Cruise land tours go for the Mayan experience in Mexico. All cruises have short shore excursions, everything from horsebackriding, jeep tours, canopy tours, jungle river tours, plantation tours, you get the idea.
I hated Jamaica and Trinidad. I loved the Grenadines, Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Belize.
Have fun.
