I have asked a number of questions about evolution and ended up on the recieving end of a certain amount of abuse. I have appreciated the reasoned arguments of many evolutions, but I just wondered why a small number of evolutionist YA participants resort to these personal attacks. It's not as though I'm attacking them personally. This is not a complaint or a personal attack of my own, I'm just curious about why these ones feel that way. If you could take the time to explain your position with regard to evolution and creation, God and Atheism, etc, that would be nice and much appreciated. Thankyou very much.

Note to KrISTen: please don't abuse evlutionists like that. They have spent much time thinking about what they believe, and don't need or deserve it. Although I believe in creation, I would urge all creationists to stop abusing evolutionists.

tielzebob - I don't have a low opinion of you at all. You've obviously thought about, but it seems a shame (for your church not you) that they are supposd to reasonably and responsibly teach you about creation and yet you've ended up believing in evolution. But as I say, you've thought about it and you've a right to your thoughts.

Novangelis - good point. I sometimes end up asking a question several times before I get to the heart of the matter, reformatting it each time. I will ask the question again at some point but will more fairly include refernces to all beliefs. Thanks.

Maybe they should ring doorbells at seven A.M. and say Darwin loves you, or have you accepted Darwins theory of evolution. Maybe then they could stuff public library books with pamphlets and sneek statues of his theory of evolution into courtrooms after midnight like horsethiefs and have sobbing people face down on courthouse steps, like church people. Those crazy scientists!

I'm a catholic, not that dedicated but a catholic none the less, I believe the evolution theory and always have but my friend is a born again christain and questions me on it a lot. Most of his questions i couldnt answer because im not a scientist or archeologist. But there is one animal which I think proves evolution beyond question...WATER SNAKES. these animals are exactly the same as their land counter parts. They look, move and eat the same, the only difference is they have evolved a fin at the end of their bodies so they can move through water with ease. So either land snakes gradualy moved into the water and evolved the fin for better movement or water snakes moved onto land and evolved the pointed ending to their bodies for better movement on land. I think this prove evolution aswell as all the progressive fossil evidence. But just because I believe in evolution, it doesnt mean I believe in God, I actualy have a strong belief in god, I just dont go to mass as I cant stand listening to an 80 year old priest talking about society when they know nothing about it. I believe that god made evolution happen as well as the big bang, and I believe that this reflects god power in a more glorious light then the whole adam and eve thing as it is more complicated and intracit and therefore displays the real majesty of creation.
I'm only 17 and havnt been to college yet(im going for theology) plus Im irish so that may give you a lower opinion of me but I hope this helps.

You've gotten a lot of irrational responses on both ends of the spectrum, so why did you single out one side of the debate and lump the extremists with the moderates from only one side? You should look at your question asking skills. You somehow ask a question that is not quite the one you want answered. Figure out how to ask the question you want answered from a neutral viewpoint and you might get better responses. By the way, "evolutionist" was a term coined by Creationists because calling their opposition "scientists" weakened their rhetoric.

Not every 'evolutionist' is a scientist
I believe evolution is true, but do I know how the eye is formed? Of course not. I hardly would know the damm terminology involved.
When christians ask about evolution they seem to expect you to have an answer for everything, like they themselves seem to have, and if we dont know just one little thing, they carry on like they have proven their point. This will make some 'evolutionist' very annoyed and angry.
Christians do the same, however christians claim to have a personal one on one relationship with the master scientist of the universe, and talk to him on a day to day basis and also have His perfect words in a book.

When something as intimate and personal as your "immortal soul" or lack-there-of is brought into evaluation, people tend to be on the defensive.
Sometimes it is because they actually don't know the facts, and therefore can't back it up. Especially if this means they might have to rethink what they've believed for a very long time.
Some of them might be afraid some one is going to call them "fools of the heart", that they and their family will "burn in hell" or that they are worth less than dirt because they don't agree with the person asking. (I don't know how or who you've asked, so I can't say.)
People of all beliefs tend to do this, and a lot of the time it's just a defense mechanism for reasons we can never truly know.
No one likes to feel like an idiot, and so if they think they might have to admit to someone they know less than they say they do...they hide their ignorance behind their anger.
I hope you can find the answers you seek in the future!

" I just wondered why a small number of evolutionist YA participants resort to these personal attacks. "
-That's your answer right there. In any discussion a small # of people will act rudely/stupidly. Kind of obviates the premise of your question, which casts a much wider net. Some people don't like having their beliefs questioned and respond the only way they know how.

There's no such thing as an "evolutionist". Someone who believes evolution is someone of sound unbiased mind. It isn't someone who makes a point of not believing in God, it's just someone who can think logically.
To be honest it's not just some "evolutionists" that are sensitive, a majority of the posts I get on my posts are from offended religious people, even in areas that don't discuss them.

take a inspect the little flagellate prevalent because of the fact the Euglenoid. it fairly is the two autotrophic (can produce skill via itself and heterotrophic (produces skill from ingesting different organisms). Like flowers, Euglenoids have carotenoid pigments that are waiting to catch mild for photosynthesis yet someplace in time, a mutation happened the place those pigments have been trapped in an organelle and stepped forward an eyespot, which "filters the sunlight that falls on a mild-detecting shape on the backside of the flagellum (a swelling, prevalent because of the fact the paraflagellar physique), allowing in undemanding terms particular wavelengths of sunshine to realize it. because of the fact the cellular rotates with admire to the sunshine source, the eyespot partly blocks the source, allowing the Euglena to locate the sunshine and circulate in direction of it (a technique prevalent as phototaxis)" i've got faith the start of the evolution of the attention started with a technique such as this. because of the fact it fairly is such an income to have the skill navigate your ecosystem in nature, it took carry and because sunlight is made out of many wavelengths, people who're waiting to take income of the main (see in color) have been waiting to stay to tell the story and reproduce the main

I think the people you are reefing to act that way because they perceive everything as a personal attack.
I have not taken the time to read your questions about evolution. Perhaps they are honest questions, perhaps not. But if you are asking them in R&S, then I bet you are merely looking to bait and insult.

Ah, yes there are people who are sensitive about these sort of things. Every affiliation has them. Creationist have them. Evolutionists have them. Muslims have them, Christians have them, Atheists have them, Satanists have them.
It is simply human nature.
Good question, though.
