-LCD has a slight resolution advantage in a well-lit room.
-They are generally thinner, also 10-15% lighter than plasma, and use approximately 50% less power.
-They don't have a problem with "burn-in" as plasmas sometimes do, however LCDs do tend to have what is called "ghosting", where a trail is seen behind moving objects. Although, many of the better brands of have resolved these issues for both.
-Plasmas have 160-170 degree viewing radius, whereas LCD loses a bit of contrast and brightness as you move from center.
As for lifespan, TV lifespan is measured as a "half-life", or the amount of time it takes for the unit to lose half its original brightness. LCD has around 55,000. With an average of 8 hours a day of viewing, that's 20 years. Many plasma manufacturers boast a 60,000 life span, but that claim is suspect considering the meathod of measurement used doesn't reflect real world use. Panasonic first made the claim (up from 35,000 hours the previous year), and shortly after other manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon making the same claim.
Additionally, LCD has a replaceable bulb. Depending on the brand and model of your LCD (the better the brand, the better the bulb), a replacement bulb can cost between $250 and $500. Plasmas, on the other hand, are totally done when they've reached their half-life as there is nothing you can do to repair the gas
