My heart goes out to you. Grieving is normal. Remember the good times and cherish the memories, and always remember that no matter what, your dog absolutely and unconditionally loved you.

Incidentally, have you read Marley and Me? It's a book about a guy who gets a yellow lab and has so many issues with it, but loves it. You may empathize.

Sorry for your loss, have been down that road many times with dogs, cats, horses and many other animals. My solace is that I will see them again in a much better place. I am especially looking forward to seeing my stallion who passed 2 years ago from cancer he had a heart as big as the great outdoors. Can't really give you advice as everyone handles grief differently. The only thing I can say is get another dog when you are ready to help you heal. They do give you unconditional love.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm sorry I understand, dogs love unconditionally unlike a lot of people. Grieve with friends or family, get fid of the dog bed and get a small affectionate energetic puppy and give it a different name ( retire the previous dogs name ), then move on. Your dog would want it that way.

The best advise I can give is to go get a puppy in a couple of weeks. You'll be surprised at how quickly your heart heals. Good luck

My sympathy to you - losing an animal is very, very hard! But know that your dog had a good life and you enjoyed each other's company for years - I hope!! You will find no other love that is completely unconditional, completely real and completely pure! I hope you find such happiness again!
