you should feed big dogs twice a day as they consume their food quicker.
i would give your beagle 1 dry of dry food in the evening then half a cup of an evening with some fresh cooked pasta, vegies or meat thrown into but not to much....
happy dayz

Beagles, sadly, are among the dog breeds that are prone to obesity, although it's not good for their health.
The amount you feed her depends on how much exercise she is getting. Since she is overweight, I would suggest increasing her exercise to about two 15-minute sessions per day, feeding her the same amount you have been. (If she used to be on canned food, start by giving her about 3/4 cup dry food, divided into a couple daily meals.) Wait about two weeks to reassess her fitness and weight. You might want to use the body-condition scoring method to evaluate her weight: see http://www.cvm.tamu.edu/clinicalnutrition/bcsdog.htm . Aim for about a 1.5 lb / week weight loss program.
Even when your dog has reached her optimal 35-pound weight, continue to weigh and/or body-condition score her every other week to ensure that she is no longer losing weight. If she is, increase her daily ration by about 10%.

Ive had two dogs that have done this. My vet told me that it was because they 1. learned it from their mom as a puppy. or 2. they aren't getting enough nutrients from their food. So the vet told me to soak their food that way it would digest better. It has helped alot but really you just need to be out there watching and if your beagle is about to eat her poop tell her to leave it. These things have helped my dogs to stop eating their poop. It can become harmful for them to eat it because certain things can get into it and its just not a good habit for them to form. I hope this helps!

Do you take it on regular walks and if not how active is your dog? If you feel your dog is getting fat then give less food and exercise a little more. Honestly why obsess about a fat dog... why not put more energy into helping fat people seeing how it's a major health problem in the US

look on the bag and get a measuring cup or scoop to dispense the food to her it really depends on the type of dogfood you get also treats are ok for them but in moderation we usually get the weight maintenance food for our dogs and when they get treats they only either get half or sometimes even smaller than half
