No. You can be baptized anywhere. What makes it baptism is when the water is accompanyed by Gods word. Jesus was baptized in a river.

Hi, just believe what the bible says and go to a church that believes what the bible says. The bible says that you must be baptized, read...1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:37-38, John 3:3-5, Acts 19:1-6 and many more. You must be born again of the water and spirit (John 3:3-5). The spirit baptism is receiving the Holy Ghost, read: Acts 2:1-4, Acts 10:44-46, Acts 19:1-6. Then when you see what the bible says you find a church that believes what the bible says and preaches only what it says. There are plenty of scriptures to back up baptism and what to do to be saved. Now, you do need to find a church because the bible speaks of not forsaking the assembly together with the saints (church). So, it is the will of God to be in church and even more as we see the Coming of Christ getting near. Once you are baptized once "in the name of Jesus" you do not have to be baptized into every church you go to. THe "church" is not a building, but a group of people anyway, so don't worry about that part of it.

yes and no. Vertisas has some of the answer. As Catholics we enter into the sacrement of baptizim summular as people of the old testement enter into the covenant with good by infant circumsition. Our Baptist Christian brothers and sister use baptist as a public proclemation that they are accepting Jesus as their personal savior. We Catholics believe that Cristianity is not just a one time thing but a way of life. That is why we have other sacrements such as Euchrist, Holy Matrimony, Reconsiliation, and Comfirmation. Comfirmation which is done later in life confirms our baptisim. Any way alone our lifes, all of us must go to a transfermation of a source which the Baptist might refer to as born again. Reconsiliation and Euchrist are recieved through out our life and bring us closer to our Lord Jesus Christ which we to confess that he is our savior. As for do you have to be baptized in a church, you should but in an emergency you can have anybody baptisted under the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit. But why do that when you can be baptized in a Church? If you want to know more about the Catholic church check out your local perish and ask for RCIA classes. There is no obligation to become Catholic, but you will know more about the church that way. Then if the Holy Spirit guides you to recieve baptisim and Confirmation, we will be happy. God Bless and yours in Christ.

Baptism can be in a river- it can be in a pool. I would definately be baptized by a Pastor of a bible teaching church who is preaching the doctrine of Jesus Christ- not false doctrine. If you have agreed with the statement of faith with that church, then by all means be baptized! Do you understand baptism? That God calls us to believe and then be baptized? It is not that we are saved by baptism but it is our outward expression of faith in God.
It is our showing of repentence....If you believe in Jesus then you are bound to find a good bible teaching church- there has to be on in your area- I know many churches seem "off" but pray about this and ask the Lord to lead you to a good church.

of course it is always best to have a church baptism as it adds to the wonder of this sacrament, but did you know that baptism is one of two sacraments that ordinary lay people can administer, the other is marriage.
baptism can be performed by any Christian on someone in danger of dying, and in the case of marriage it is the couple who administer the sacrament to each other and not the Priest.

If you don't go to Church you really don't believe in Jesus because he said to Peter "Thou art Peter (Rock) and upon this rock, I shall build my "Church" and the gates of Hell shall not prevail over it" This is the Catholic Church.
