You know that growl that comes out when black people sings? HOw do you do that?

It is partly a different set up in their vocal chords, and a bit of what the last person said!

You can get close to it however my prassing throat exercises, I.e exercises that open your throat. Think when you yawn really wide and inhale air. Your throat is open then. If you can recreate that feeling, and practice the growl with that sensation, you are likely to get closer to it. Careful not to strain your voice though - a little often. Don't do alot in one session.
