He could be in a coma. does he have a heart beat. check his eyes, are they dull and cloudy and is there a blink reflex if you touch it near the closed eyes. is the tounge cold and pale......
i do have to admit. this is kind of a strange question. Hopefully you are sincere. If you really care and are not sure and the dog does have resonses to the above suggestions then GET IT TO THE Vet. it is seriously ill... if the dog does not have the above reflexes or the eyes are opaque. it probably is dead.

Well check his pulse and try to move him if he then responds then you may want to take him to the vet. if he doesnt give him a few hours and if he is stiff than you have a dead dog sorry

is he breathing or have a pulse?
look for his chest moving or breath on your hand.
feel for a pulse on his chest or on the inside of his thigh.
is his eyes fixed and dilated?
the pupil will be large and stay like this even if light is shone into it.
you will be able to touch the inside of the eye if he has died with no blink.
I'm so sorry ..........not nice

It is possible he is 'playing dead'... mine did that for like two weeks and then he learned a new trick, he started 'playing smelly' but he wouldn't stop so I had to get rid of him... my mother-in-law always liked him so I dropped him off there..

This is sad! Is this the reaction you are hoping for? OH one more thing like when people die they usually lose their body functions. Did you have to clean the floor?

If he is not breathing, then yes he is dead, however if he is breathing (look for his chest to be rising and falling) then he is alive
